FDA approves GlaxoSmithKline's raxibacumab for anthrax

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new biotech drug from GlaxoSmithKline for anthrax, the drug maker said.

LONDON — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new biotech drug from GlaxoSmithKline for anthrax, the drug maker said.

GSK announced the approval of raxibacumab for adults and children who have inhaled Bacillus anthracis. The drug is designed for combination with antibiotics and for preventing inhalational anthrax when alternative therapies aren't available. The drug is the result of a project that Human Genome Sciences, now owned by GSK, began working on in 2001 in response to terrorist anthrax attacks in the United States.

Retailers pull infant formula off shelves ahead of any possible recall

So far two retailers — Supervalu and Walmart — have pulled lots of Emfamil Premium Newborn powdered formula before any recall has been issued after learning of an infant's death this past weekend, according to published reports.

CHICAGO — Nathan's Famous has introduced Angus beef hot dogs for the grilling season.

"Consumers love Angus beef, and now they can choose Nathan's Famous hot dogs made from all Angus beef, too," said Janet Sweeney, marketing director for Specialty Foods Group, which handles retail sales for Nathan's Famous hot dogs. "It's all about giving consumers the choices they want as we kick off the grilling season."
