Superheroes like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and others will be showing up at Target stores this summer.

MINNEAPOLIS — Superheroes like Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and others will be showing up at Target stores this summer.

The mass merchandise retailer has signed a deal with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC Entertainment to introduce Justice League merchandise. Other characters in the comic franchise include Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash and Wonder Woman. The collection will appear at all Target stores on Sunday and will include products like melamine dinnerware, sand toys and beach towels. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CITY OF COMMERCE, Calif. — 99¢ Only Stores last week announced that Richard Anicetti has assumed the role of interim CEO. In addition, Michael Fung will join the company as interim chief administrative officer overseeing finance, information technology, real estate and various administrative functions of the company. 

In connection with the foregoing changes, the original family management team Eric Schiffer, Jeff Gold and Howard Gold are no longer employed by the company.

The wholesaler also announced the realignment of select executive leadership positions to best capitalize on the growing needs resulting from recent geographic and service expansions. These expansions include the acquisition of Valley Wholesale Drug in October 2012 and a planned majority ownership investment in Triplefin announced in January 2013.

Drug wholesaler H.D. Smith has finalized its purchase of a wholesale company based in California.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Drug wholesaler H.D. Smith has finalized its purchase of a wholesale company based in California.

H.D. Smith said Friday that it had completed its acquisition of Stockton, Calif.-based Valley Wholesale Drug, which it will run as a wholly owned subsidiary. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but day-to-day operations at Valley will be run by its CEO, Stephen Shoneff.

The acquisition will increase H. D. Smith’s customer base in California and give the wholesaler an opportunity to expand into the Pacific Northwest, a market in which it currently has a limited reach.

NEW YORK — Generic drug maker Watson Pharmaceuticals is looking to acquire Actavis, according to published reports.

News media reported Wednesday that U.S.-based Watson was close to taking over Switzerland-based Actavis for $6.6 to $7.3 billion. Actavis, also a major manufacturer of generic drugs, was formerly based in Iceland and moved its headquarters to Switzerland last year.

Brown comes to Emerson from Bayer HealthCare where he held a variety of roles in sales and category management for Bayer’s over-the-counter businesses working with the Walmart account. His primary responsibility was working as category captain to Walmart on the cough, cold and allergy category. Brown utilized his knowledge of the cough, cold and allergy category in working with Bayer internal brand teams to develop and launch new items, as well as setting brand strategies.

Mark Schumacher, an industry veteran that has worked as a retailer HBC category manager, will focus on category and shopper insights for Emerson Group.

Prior to joining Emerson Group, Schumacher was the director of category development at homeopathic manufacturer Boiron.

WAYNE, Pa. — The Emerson Group announced that former Actavis executive Brad Blake has joined the company.

Blake will focus on Actavis, an Emerson client, and its business to continue the current strong relationship between the two companies. Additionally, Blake also will concentrate on other private-label business for Emerson and be responsible for Publix, Winn-Dixie and Dollar Tree.

Brad has been in the consumer packaged goods and over-the-counter business since 1982.
