Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo, announced this week the company is introducing completely "re-imagined" packaging across its Lay's Wavy brand line of chips and is adding a new garlic-flavored chip to the lineup.

The company is launching new Lay’s Wavy Roasted Garlic & Sea Salt flavored chips. The potato chips will be available in stores nationwide this month in a 9 1/2-oz. bag for a suggested retail price of $4.29. Single-serve sizes will be available for a limited time at participating retailers beginning summer 2013.

This is the fifth flavor in the Tostitos Artisan Recipes line from PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division, and the new chip draws inspiration from the layered flavors of a rich Mexican mole sauce.

NEW YORK — Natural and organic foods and beverages are expected to realize dramatic growth in 2011 and beyond, following strong U.S. retail sales over the past five years.

According to new research conducted by Packaged Facts, "Natural and Organic Foods and Beverages in the U.S., 3rd Edition," U.S. retail sales of natural and organic foods and beverages rose to nearly $39 billion in 2010, a 9% increase over 2009, and 63% higher than sales five years earlier.

They can be used as dips or to add a twist to an array of meals and snacks, including hot wings, potato wedges, meatballs, enchiladas, salads and more.

DALLAS — Reducing sodium is at the top of consumer request lists when it comes to what they want in snacks, according to Frito-Lay. SymphonyIRI data showed that 52% of consumers in 2009 identified low sodium as an important snack attribute — up from 43% in 2007.


Manufacturers are giving consumers what they want. Frito-Lay, for example, continues to expand its lightly salted chip varieties, which offer 50% less sodium per ounce per serving.

PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay has vowed to reformulate the ingredient mix of about half of its snack products to be completely natural — including three of its biggest brands: Lay's, Tostitos and Sunchips — by the end of 2011, the company announced Tuesday. Once reformulated, the products  will contain only all-natural ingredients, and will include no artificial or synthetic ingredients, no artificial flavors and no preservatives, including MSG. The company maintained that the changes will not impact the products’ flavor.
