BJ's Wholesale Club is slated to open its newest store in Massachusetts this weekend, the company announced Tuesday.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — BJ's Wholesale Club is slated to open its newest store in Massachusetts this weekend, the company announced Tuesday.

The more than 85,000-sq.-ft. club, located in Pittsfield, joins 23 other BJ's clubs throughout the state.

The club's operating hours will befrom 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

An advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that all boys ages 11 and 12 years old get vaccinated against human papillomavirus, the CDC said Tuesday.

ATLANTA — An advisory committee of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that all boys ages 11 and 12 years old get vaccinated against human papillomavirus, the CDC said Tuesday.

The agency said the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted for recommending routine vaccination of boys with three doses of HPV4 to protect against the virus. The vaccination is able to prevent such HPV-related conditions as cancer and prevent the spread of the virus to sexual partners. The recommendation is still subject to the CDC's approval, the agency said.

WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission released a report Tuesday finding that drug companies entered 28 deals that the FTC called anticompetitive and said would increase healthcare costs for consumers and the government.

The FTC, which under the leadership of chairman Jon Leibowitz, repeatedly has attacked what it calls "pay-for-delay" deals between branded and generic drug manufacturers and has been lobbying the Congressional Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, also known as the super committee, to ban the deals.

CINCINNATI — The maker of such brands as John Frieda and Jergens is getting a name makeover.

Kao Brands said it will be called Kao USA, effective Jan. 1, 2012, to reflect its repositioning effort by parent company Kao Corp. 

In line with the name change, Kao's beauty care subsidiaries in North America and Europe will operate as unified organizations in the major countries in which they operate.

PHILADELPHIA — Lannett has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration to market its version of an anti-obesity drug.

The FDA approved Lannett's abbreviated new drug application for diethylpropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets in the 75-mg strength. The company expects to begin shipping the product immediately.

INDIANAPOLIS — Eli Lilly is withdrawing one of its drugs from the market after clinical trials showed it to be ineffective.

The drug maker announced Tuesday the withdrawal of Xigris (drotrecogin alfa [activated]) from all markets following results of the "PROWESS-SHOCK" study, which found that it did not produce a statistically significant reduction in 28-day, all-cause death in patients with septic shock. The company said there were no new findings regarding the drug's safety profile.

FREMONT, Neb. — Natura Pet Products has expanded its California Natural grain-free line.

California Natural grain free now includes two varieties of adult dog food: kangaroo and red lentils formula and salmon meal and peas formula. Both products contain novel proteins, in addition to essential vitamins and minerals to ensure canines have a complete and balanced diet, the company said.

The new formulas are available in 5-lb., 15-lb. and 30-lb. bags, and will hit retail next month.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Medicare Part D beneficiaries will be able to obtain hundreds of generic drugs without any deductible or co-pay under a new program offered by Rite Aid.

The retail pharmacy chain announced Tuesday that it had partnered with Envision Insurance Co. to offer a value-focused prescription drug plan for Medicare Part D Open Enrollment 2012. Rite Aid EnvisionRx Plus offers beneficiaries a plan with a $0 deductible and $0 co-pays, including during the coverage gap, also known as the donut hole.

Dr. Reddy's Labs reported sales of $462 million for second quarter 2012 and $866 million for the first half of the fiscal year, according to an earnings statement released Tuesday.

HYDERABAD, India — Dr. Reddy's Labs reported sales of $462 million for second quarter 2012 and $866 million for the first half of the fiscal year, according to an earnings statement released Tuesday.

The Indian generic drug maker said the second-quarter sales represented a 21% increase over second quarter 2011. Sales from global generics were $329 million for the quarter, an 18% increase over second quarter 2011, driven mostly by growth in North America and Russia.

Profits for the quarter were $63 million, a 7% increase over second quarter 2011.

PARIS — Sanofi has appointed David Meeker as CEO of Genzyme, the French drug maker said.

Sanofi bought the Cambridge, Mass.-based biotech manufacturer for $20.1 billion earlier this year.

"After working closely with David over the past six months, I am confident that he is the best person to lead Genzyme," Sanofi CEO Christopher Viehbacher said. "David's commitment to employees, physicians and patients has been a key success factor in the successful integration of Genzyme as part of the Sanofi Group."

PITTSBURGH — StarKist has introduced a new line of canned tuna that is aimed at Hispanic consumers.

StarKist's new Autentico line includes StarKist tuna blended with spices and/or vegetables. The line includes Autentico chunk light tuna in oil with vegetables, Autentico sweet and spicy chunk light tuna in oil with peppers and Autentico chunk light tuna with jalapeños.

StarKist Autentico tuna products retail for about $1.69 per can.

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop announced that it has expanded the availability of its Scan It! Mobile shopping app.

First introduced last June for iPhone 3GS and 4G in three stores, Scan It! now is also available for many Android devices, which will double the reach of customers, the company said. In addition, the pilot will expand to an additional 42 Stop & Shop stores in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

The supermarket chain said that its Food for Friends program, now in its 22nd year, will kick off Friday and run through Dec. 8. At an event held Tuesday that included such attendees as first lady Michelle Obama and Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, Supervalu announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Save-A-Lot will open a new store in Chicago's Lawndale neighborhood at the end of November in order to position the area as a food oasis.
