ST. LOUIS — Anheuser-Busch's new golden amber lager Budweiser Black Crown debuted on the market in late January. The new beer, a blend of two-row caramel malt and four types of domestic hops, maintains the clean taste and high drinkability of the Budweiser label, but has more body, color and hop character than the flagship lager. It also has a slightly higher alcohol content. The beer will be sold nationwide in 12-oz. glass bottles available in 6- and 12-packs and in 22-oz. single bottles.

Budweiser will introduce the latest addition to its line of beers later this month, the company said Tuesday.

ST. LOUIS — Budweiser will introduce the latest addition to its line of beers later this month, the company said Tuesday.

The brewing company announced plans to unveil Budweiser Black Crown on Jan. 21, based on 12 recipes, six beers brewed for national sampling and 25,000 opinions from the company's "Project 12" competition. The company plans to broadcast the first 30-second television advertisement during Super Bowl XLVII on Feb. 3.

NEW YORK — "The Colbert Report" on Wednesday hosted a segment “Tip of the Hat; Wag of the Finger” that featured — and poked a little fun at — Walgreens’ private-label beer Big Flats 1901.

The American lager is so named as an homage to the flat boats that traveled rivers delivering goods to early settlers.

Walgreens' 50-cents-per-can beer is brewed by Genesee Brewery, which has been brewing Genesee beer in Rochester, N.Y., since 1878.

A Novato, Calif.-based leading corporate brand beer supplier has launched a private-label beer for Walgreens, according to published reports.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — A Novato, Calif.-based corporate brand beer supplier has launched a private-label beer for Walgreens, according to published reports.

Winery Exchange is the producer behind Big Flats 1901, a lager brewed by Genesee Brewing Co., based in Rochester, N.Y. Big Flats 1901 sells for around 50 cents per can at most Walgreens stores, according to reports.

Winery Exchange's retail partners include Supervalu, Kroger, Costco, Delhaize and more.

So it's no surprise that the recent opening of a Duane Reade store on Bedford Avenue caused some controversy among residents. But then again, Duane Reade is no ordinary drug store chain, and it showed its independent spirit with something far from controversial: beer.
