There’s a new value-driven consumer who has emerged and, in light of this, retail pharmacy giant Walgreens is in the midst of an evolution into “a retail health and daily living store” and is on a mission to “own well.” That was a key message that an optimistic Greg Wasson, Walgreens president and CEO, had for Wall Street during the company’s Analyst Day conference on Nov. 4 in Chicago.

Open enrollment for Medicare Part D drug plans began Monday, and enrollees have until Dec. 31 to review their coverage options for 2011.

The AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour will celebrate this week its two-millionth free health screening. During its two-millionth milestone week, the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour will celebrate by serving residents in the following cities: Houston and El Paso, Texas; New Orleans, La.; Pensacola, Miami, Largo and Jacksonville, Fla.; San Jose, Calif.; and Bullhead City, Ariz.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. Joining the International Diabetes Federation to raise awareness about the chronic disease, the American Diabetes Association is celebrating World Diabetes Day on Nov. 14.

This year's World Diabetes Day theme is diabetes education and prevention, and this year's slogan is "Let's Take Control of Diabetes. Now." The campaign highlights diabetes symptoms and prevention measures, the American Diabetes Association said.

ATLANTA Drug maker Arbor Pharmaceuticals has obtained nearly $35 million in financing, the company said Thursday.

 

Arbor said the $34.8 million included a $17.5 million investment in the form of Series B Preferred Stock, mostly from Signet Healthcare Partners, while the rest was in the form of a loan provided by investors, as well as portions of the loan and investment from existing shareholders. The company markets drugs for such indications as nasal hygiene and dermatitis.
