Perrigo on Monday launched a store-brand version of Bayer Healthcare’s Aleve Liquid Gels, 220 mg.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo on Monday launched a store-brand version of Bayer Healthcare’s Aleve Liquid Gels, 220 mg.

Aleve Liquid Gels generated annual sales of approximately $80 million, Perrigo stated, citing SymphonyIRI Group data.

"This approval is another example of Perrigo's commitment to bring new products to market,” stated Perrigo's chairman and CEO Joseph Papa. Perrigo noted that it is the first-to-market with a generic equivalent of the Aleve Liquid Gels.

More than half of people with diabetes struggle to pay for their medical supplies, according to a poll by diabetes community network dLife.com.

WESTPORT, Conn. — More than half of people with diabetes struggle to pay for their medical supplies, according to a poll by diabetes community network dLife.com.

The poll also found that 49% of the more than 800 people surveyed were able to make ends meet with income and health insurance, but still felt stress, particularly during certain months of the year.

Meanwhile, more than 30% reported having to cut back on prescription drugs, supplies and medical care, while 16% accepted community or government assistance programs.

UnitedHealth Group will start a program next year that it said can reduce drug costs to as low as $2 per script, the company said Tuesday.

MINNETONKA, Minn. — UnitedHealth Group will start a program next year that it said can reduce drug costs to as low as $2 per script, the company said Tuesday.

The program, Pharmacy Saver, will be available to Medicare Part D members and is a collaboration with Kroger, Safeway and Prescription Solutions. The program will allow members to purchase some scripts for $2 for 30- and some 90-day supplies and applies to hundreds of prescription drugs, including 8-of-the-10 most commonly used by UnitedHealthcare Medicare plan members.

The NHF said Axium “meets or exceeds” the standards of the organization’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Council, meaning that it has staff knowledgeable about and provides a full range of treatments, has 24-hour access to pharmacy staff and has good record-keeping, billing and product recall processes.

NEW YORK The pharmaceutical lobby spent more than $5 million lobbying the government during the third quarter, according to published reports.

Based on a filing with the government, BusinessWeek reported that the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America spent $5.2 million lobbying on issues ranging from healthcare legislation to drug importation and marketing.

This compared with $6.8 million in third quarter 2009, according to the magazine.

NEW YORK — Pfizer got promising results from a late-stage clinical trial of a cancer treatment, the drug maker said Friday.

 

Pfizer announced results of the phase-3 “AXIS 1032” trial of the kidney cancer drug axitinib, saying that it “significantly” extended the lives of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma compared with Nexavar (sorafenib), made by Bayer HealthCare and Onyx Pharmaceuticals.

CALGARY, Alberta — The Jean Coutu Group may be only biding its time before making another go at a pharmacy operation in the United States, the Calgary Herald reported Friday, citing Jean Coutu Group chairman Jean Coutu’s recently released autobiography, written in French.

 

According to the report, Coutu suggested that jettisoning the Eckerd headquarters led to the early demise of the Brooks-Eckerd deal because there “weren't enough key personnel to make the merger work.”

Among 153 hypertensive Type 2 diabetes patients studied, 82 who had advice from a pharmacist were more likely to reach blood pressure treatment targets recommended by the Canadian Diabetes Association.

The company said its acquisition of Kinray for $1.3 billion in an all-cash transaction would significantly expand its ability to serve retail independent pharmacies in the northeastern United States. Kinray currently serves more than 2,000 retail independent pharmacy customers as a distributor of both branded and generic pharmaceuticals.
