Mission Pharmacal announced that it is expanding distribution of Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash Ointment through all Walgreens locations and on Walgreens.com.

SAN ANTONIO — Mission Pharmacal on Tuesday announced today that it is expanding distribution of Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash Ointment through all Walgreens locations and on Walgreens.com. The company also announced that Kroger will offer the product in all of its stores. Walmart has increased the number of locations offering the product, making the ointment available in many of its stores throughout the country.

Following its announcement to acquire Harris Teeter Supermarkets in a deal valued at $2.5 billion made earlier this month Kroger plans to raise $1 billion through the issuance of two bonds, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported Friday.

CINCINNATI — Following its announcement to acquire Harris Teeter Supermarkets in a deal valued at $2.5 billion made earlier this month Kroger plans to raise $1 billion through the issuance of two bonds, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported Friday.

Kroger said in its Thursday filing it plans to issue $600 million in 10-year notes that pay a 3.85% annual interest rate. It also plans to issue $400 million in 30-year notes that pay 5.15%.

Kroger on Tuesday announced a definitive merger agreement under which Kroger will purchase all outstanding shares of Harris Teeter for $49.38 per share in cash as part of a deal valued upward of $2.5 billion.

CINCINNATI — Kroger on Tuesday announced a definitive merger agreement under which Kroger will purchase all outstanding shares of Harris Teeter for $49.38 per share in cash as part of a deal valued upward of $2.5 billion. 

The transaction price represents a premium of 33.7% to the Harris Teeter closing share price on Jan. 18, 2013, the day of the first media report that Harris Teeter was evaluating strategic alternatives. The terms of the agreement were approved by the boards of both companies.

CINCINNATI — Kroger is hoping to achieve a government-supported "zero waste" threshold, and will be about three-quarters of the way there within two years, the supermarket operator said Wednesday.

The company said it was moving toward the Environmental Protection Agency's zero-waste threshold of having 90% of its waste diverted away from landfills at all locations, diverting 58% of its waste already and hoping to increase that to 65% by the end of the year and 70% by the end of 2015.

Baby formula frequently tops the list as one of the most commonly stolen products, and according to last year’s National Retail Security Survey results conducted by the University of Florida, the supermarket and grocery industry had the highest total shrinkage percentages of all retail segments.

CINCINNATI — Kroger posted sales of $30 billion and profits of $481 million in first quarter 2013 as it slowly grew its online business and foresaw increased investment in new markets and increased square footage in its stores.

The results reported Thursday compared with first quarter 2012 sales of $29.1 billion and profits of $439 million. Earnings-per-share guidance for fiscal year 2013 was increased from $2.73 to $2.80.

The clinic operator currently has seven Columbus-area locations inside select Kroger stores, but Kroger has indicated that it is opening the additional locations because of higher patient volume and demand from employers to curb rising healthcare costs, according to a report by Columbus Business First.

CINCINNATI — Turkey Hill Dairy president Quintin Frey retired Tuesday, according to Kroger. 

"Quintin has been a great ambassador for the Turkey Hill brand and an important part of the Kroger leadership team," stated David Dillon, Kroger's chairman and CEO. "The Kroger family extends our thanks and best wishes to Quintin and his family."

Frey began his career with Kroger at Turkey Hill Dairy in 1980 as a management trainee. He served in a variety of leadership roles before being promoted to serve as president in 1991.

CINCINNATI — Kroger on Tuesday announced two finance executive promotions that will be effective with their elections by Kroger's board of directors expected on June 27. Scott Henderson has been named VP pension investment and strategy and Todd Foley has been named VP and treasurer. 

Henderson, 57, currently serves as Kroger's VP and treasurer, a position he has held since 2003. He will lead a new team that is responsible for overseeing nearly $12 billion of assets.
