Powerful pharmacy benefit manager Medco Health Solutions has just unveiled the results of a large-scale study that points out the critical role that pharmacist interventions play in the health and safety of women.

The results of the research, jointly conducted by Medco and the Society for Women's Health Research, came to light March 17 at Women's Health 2012: The 20th Annual Congress. The study shows a wide and worrisome gender gap when it comes to how men and women adhere to their medication regimens.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target on Monday announced it will seek independent pharmacists to own and operate the pharmacies in its stores in Canada.

The chain said it will utilize a pharmacy franchise model for its stores north of the border, the first of which will open in March/April 2013. The strategy is different than in the United States, where Target operates its own in-store pharmacies.

AAA forecasts 42.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, a 4% increase from people who traveled one year ago. This is the first significant increase in any holiday travel this year.

NEW YORK — Economic anxiety continues to plague U.S. consumers, with 84% planning to spend the same or less this holiday season, according to a new report released by GfK Custom Research North America on Thursday.

According to GfK's 2011 holiday shopping survey, which polled 1,007 Americans ages 18 years and older, 40% of American households will spend less this year, while 44% will spend the same amount they did in 2010. GfK added that 11% plan to spend more.

NEW YORK — Deloitte on Monday released some disappointing news for retailers who were hoping that consumer spending might get a boost in the months leading up to the holiday season.

The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index plunged in September to its lowest level since May 2009, primarily due to a significant fall in home prices and deterioration in real wages.

The index, which comprises four components — tax burden, initial unemployment claims, real wages and real home prices — fell to 2.39 from 2.51 the previous month.

McKinsey & Co said it earned the No. 1 spot for management, strategy, energy and healthcare consulting, as well as the No. 2 spot overall with a score of 23.23.

Walgreens is working with the American Diabetes Association, AmeriCares, Feeding America, League of United Latin American Citizens and the National Urban League on an initiative to help provide up to 200,000 flu shot vouchers.
