AKRON, Ohio — TripAdvisor on Wednesday named Purell Advanced Hand Sanitizer "best hand sanitizer" as part of the travel site's second annual Travelers' Choice Awards for Travel Favorites.  

The awards honor top brands travelers across select global markets prefer to use on their trips. In the U.S., there were 21 winners in categories ranging from cameras to sunscreen and carry-on luggage. Winners also were announced in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, India, Italy, Spain and Russia.

Two classes of drugs for treating Type 2 diabetes will experience the biggest growth in market share of all classes of drugs for the condition, according to a new study by Decision Resources.

BURLINGTON, Mass. — Two classes of drugs for treating Type 2 diabetes will experience the biggest growth in market share of all classes of drugs for the condition, according to a new study by Decision Resources.

The study found that DPP-IV inhibitors and GLP-1 analogues would experience the biggest growth in market share among all drug classes, with a combined market share that will increase from 20% in 2010 to 47% in 2020 in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Giancamilli, who will serve in an advisory role until May 2012 following his retirement in February, will be succeeded by Frank Scorpiniti, who joined the company in April as COO.

PARMA, Italy — The European Food Safety Authority has granted GlaxoSmithKline a positive opinion for a health claim related to its "toothkind" drinks, according to BeverageDaily.com, an online news service.

According to the report, the EFSA panel ruled that a cause-and-effect connection could be established between "toothkind" drinks and reduced demineralization, but only when they are consumed in place of high quantities of juice or sugary drinks.

BURLINGTON, Mass. The drug market for Crohn's disease treatments will see moderate growth over the next decade, Decision Resources reported Wednesday.

The research firm projected that the market will increase a little more than 31%, from $3.2 billion in 2009 to $4.2 billion in 2019, in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan. Decision Resources said the the modest growth rate masks such market changes as new and emerging biologics, as well as generic competition.

STOCKHOLM A new study now available online in the journal Pediatrics supported earlier clinical research about the benefits of a specific probiotic strain on colic symptoms in infants, BioGaia recently announced.

 

In the new study, infants supplemented with Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis showed a significant reduction in crying time. After one week of supplementation, the reduction in crying time was 74% in the L. reuteri Protectis group, compared with 38% in the placebo group.
