NEW YORK — Laura Geller Beauty, a prestige color cosmetics brand developed by makeup artist Laura Geller, has announced that the company has received an investment from private equity firm Tengram Capital Partners.

The company is best known as an innovator and pioneer of the “baked” category of makeup — uniquely formulated, color-correcting products made in Italy. The company also was one of the first brands to introduce primer, now one of the leading cosmetic categories, called Spackle.

TORONTO — Katz Group Canada, Canada’s largest integrated pharmacy network with more than 1,800 chain, franchise and independent pharmacies, has announced the retirement of industry veteran Andy Giancamilli as CEO, effective Feb. 2, 2012.

Giancamilli, who will serve in an advisory role until May 2012 following his retirement in February, will be succeeded by Frank Scorpiniti, who joined the company in April as COO.

PARMA, Italy — The European Food Safety Authority has granted GlaxoSmithKline a positive opinion for a health claim related to its "toothkind" drinks, according to BeverageDaily.com, an online news service.

According to the report, the EFSA panel ruled that a cause-and-effect connection could be established between "toothkind" drinks and reduced demineralization, but only when they are consumed in place of high quantities of juice or sugary drinks.

BURLINGTON, Mass. The drug market for Crohn's disease treatments will see moderate growth over the next decade, Decision Resources reported Wednesday.

The research firm projected that the market will increase a little more than 31%, from $3.2 billion in 2009 to $4.2 billion in 2019, in the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan. Decision Resources said the the modest growth rate masks such market changes as new and emerging biologics, as well as generic competition.

STOCKHOLM A new study now available online in the journal Pediatrics supported earlier clinical research about the benefits of a specific probiotic strain on colic symptoms in infants, BioGaia recently announced.

In the new study, infants supplemented with Lactobacillus reuteri Protectis showed a significant reduction in crying time. After one week of supplementation, the reduction in crying time was 74% in the L. reuteri Protectis group, compared with 38% in the placebo group.
