NORTH WALES, Pa. — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries' U.S. subsidiary has launched a generic drug for treating warts and skin lesions, the company said.

Teva Pharmaceuticals announced the launch and availability of imiquimod cream, a generic version of Medicis Pharmaceutical Corp.'s Aldara.

The drug is used to treat external genital and rectal warts, certain types of actinic keratosis and basal cell carcinoma. Various versions of the drug had sales of about $244 million in 2011, according to IMS Health.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a topical treatment made by Leo Pharma for a skin condition that can lead to cancer, the drug maker said Wednesday.

Leo announced the FDA approval of Picato (ingenol mebutate) gel in the 0.015%/0.05% strength for actinic keratosis, also known as AK, which is a precancerous condition resulting from cumulative sun exposure that has the potential to lead to squamous cell carcinoma.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a drug made by Graceway Pharmaceuticals for actinic keratoses, Graceway said.

The agency approved Zyclara (imiquimod) cream in the 2.5% strength for AK, a precancerous lesion that affects about 10 million Americans and can develop into skin cancer later on.

HAWTHORNE, N.Y. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a topical treatment for skin conditions made by Israeli generic drug maker Taro Pharmaceutical Industries.

Taro announced Monday the approval of imiquimod cream in the 5% strength. The drug is used to treat actinic keratosis and external genital warts, and is a generic version of Graceway Pharmaceuticals’ Aldara.

Imiquimod cream has annual sales of around $340 million in the United States, according to Taro.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a topical treatment for genital warts made by Graceway Pharmaceuticals, the drug maker said Monday.

The FDA approved Zyclara (imiquimod) cream in the 3.75% strength for patients ages 12 years and older. According to clinical trial data, the cream effectively cleared genital warts, and of patients who achieved complete clearance, only a small percentage had a recurrence 12 weeks after treatment.

The FDA approved Perrigo’s imiquimod cream in the 5% strength. The drug is a generic version of Graceway Pharmaceuticals’ Aldara.

 

 

The drug is used to treat actinic keratoses on the face and scalp, superficial basal cell carcinoma and external genital and perianal warts in patients ages 12 years and older.
