Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co., a specialty pharmaceuticals company, announced that it was granted final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for bromfenac ophthalmic solution 0.09% (once-a-day).

AMITYVILLE, N.Y. — Hi-Tech Pharmacal Co., a specialty pharmaceuticals company, on Thursday announced that it was granted final approval from the Food and Drug Administration for bromfenac ophthalmic solution 0.09% (once-a-day), a generic version of ISTA Pharmaceuticals’ Bromday ophthalmic solution, 0.09%.

The product is used to treat post-op inflammation and reduction of ocular pain in patients who have had cataract surgery. The company plans to launch the product immediately.

Valeant Pharmaceuticals said it would not move forward in its pursuit of Ista Pharmaceuticals due to lack of progress.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Valeant Pharmaceuticals said it would not move forward in its pursuit of Ista Pharmaceuticals due to lack of progress.

The drug maker said it withdrew the acquisition offer of Ista, valued at $7.50 per share in cash. Valeant previously said that the offer would remain open until Jan. 31.

Drug maker Valeant Pharmaceuticals has launched a hostile takeover bid for ISTA Pharmaceuticals, the company said.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — Drug maker Valeant Pharmaceuticals has launched a hostile takeover bid for ISTA Pharmaceuticals, the company said.

The company announced Friday the offer of $6.50 per share for ISTA, an Irvine, Calif.-based maker of eye drugs. ISTA stock had a closing price of $3.89 per share on Thursday.

IRVINE, Calif. Ista Pharmaceuticals has won approval from the Food and Drug Administration for a drug used to treat eye surgery patients.

 

The drug maker announced the approval of Bromday (bromfenac) ophthalmic solution as a once-daily eye drop for treating pain and inflammation in patients who have received cataract extraction surgery. The drug is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, or NSAID, belonging to the same class as the common painkiller ibuprofen. The company plans to launch the drug at the end of this year.
