Among children who took part in a recent study on the use of hand sanitizer in an environment with limited access to clean water, diarrhea cases were reduced by 30% and respiratory illnesses by more than 11%, GOJO Industries noted in a release issued Tuesday.

AKRON, Ohio — Among children who took part in a recent study on the use of hand sanitizer in an environment with limited access to clean water, diarrhea cases were reduced by 30% and respiratory illnesses by more than 11%, GOJO Industries noted in a release issued Tuesday. 

The University of Columbia study was reported in the June 2012 issue of Pan American Journal of Public Health. As part of the study, researchers monitored children's use of alcohol hand sanitizer in conjunction with education to help to reduce life-threatening infections.

The company will market the 1D Colgate MaxFresh power and manual toothbrushes and the 1D Colgate MaxFresh toothpaste; 1D is the shorthand form of One Direction.

CHATSWORTH, Caif. — Natural personal care manufacturer Nature’s Gate has partnered with international nonprofit organization WaterAid, a charity dedicated to improving access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education.

As part of this partnership, Nature’s Gate will complete eight new rainwater-harvesting systems and deliver sustainable supplies of safe, clean water to at least 4,000 people by the end of 2012, the company stated.

According to data provided by SymphonyIRI Group, sales of bath fragrances/bubble bath rose about 3% for the 12 weeks ended Aug. 12 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart). During that same period, sales of body scrubbers/massagers declined 5%, as sales of liquid body wash also dropped about 5%.

SKILLMAN, N.J. — Personal care maker Johnson & Johnson is on a course to reformulate nearly all of its adult toiletries and cosmetics in less than four years in an effort to remove potentially cancer-causing and other dangerous chemicals.

In an exclusive interview with the Associated Press, the company said it is on track to have baby products, including its No More Tears baby shampoo, reformulated by the end of 2013. Adult products will reformulated by the end of 2015.

The findings suggest that the market is poised for growth, but noted that the challenge is getting him involved and engaged.
