McKee has agreed to pay $27.5 million for the Drake's brand and certain equipment. Drake's products include Ring Dings, Yodels, Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles, Sunny Doodles and Drake's Coffee Cake.

According to a Reuters report, Hostess, which went bankrupt last year, was scheduled to host an auction on Thursday for the brands — which also include Butternut, Home Pride, Merita and Nature's Pride — but as no other bids were announced, the company will not go through with an auction.

Hostess, which declared bankruptcy in November 2012 following a long standoff with one of its labor unions, said it had chosen Flowers Foods as the stalking-horse bidder; the company plans to solicit bids from other companies as well.

ITASCA, Ill. — Fans of "Zombieland" take heart — should the world come to an end, the last Twinkie will be available at a Chicago-area Jewel Osco. 

Jewel-Osco, a Supervalu company, on Monday announced that beginning Tuesday morning the retailer will begin selling what are believed to be the last shipments of Hostess products. More than 20,000 boxes of Twinkies will be sold at regular price through select Chicago-area Jewel-Osco stores, the company stated. "Customers looking for Ding Dongs, Zingers and Orange Cupcakes will also be in luck."

The company said it has expanded its Twinkies line to include chocolate creme Twinkies. Available in multipack and single-serve options, the new Twinkies item is being rolled out to store shelves nationwide.

Chocolate creme Twinkies were first introduced last spring and have become part of the Hostess portfolio after positive consumer response, the company said.

NEW YORK — The maker of Twinkies and Wonder Bread has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

Irving, Texas-based Hostess Brands carried $860 million in debt and also faced high labor costs and rising prices for sugar and other ingredients that exceeded its annual sales of about $2.5 billion, according to published reports. Hostess previously filed for bankruptcy protection in 2004 and emerged in 2009.

New frosted devil's food cake Donettes are mini donuts that are dipped in a chocolate-flavored coating and now are available at stores nationwide.

Hostess said its latest Donettes treats can be enjoyed in four convenient sizes, including 10.5-oz. Dunkie bags, 11.25-oz. Dunkie bags, 12.2-oz. Sweet Sixteen Dunkie bags and 3-oz. single-serve sleeves.

SmartBakes streusel cakes, available in cinnamon, raspberry and cheese with an indulgent streusel topping, are baked with 100% whole grains and have 3 g of fiber with 150 calories per serving. Each package of Hostess SmartBakes streusel cakes contains eight individually wrapped streusel cakes.
