Francisco Partners, a technology-focused private equity firm, earlier this week signed a definitive agreement to acquire McKesson Automation, a unit of McKesson Corp. that offers integrated pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals and health systems.

SAN FRANCISCO — Francisco Partners, a technology-focused private equity firm, earlier this week signed a definitive agreement to acquire McKesson Automation, a unit of McKesson Corp. that offers integrated pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals and health systems. McKesson Corp. previously announced its intent to divest this division, which will operate under a new name after the transaction closes. 

The transaction is expected to close this quarter and is subject to customary closing conditions.

LAS VEGAS — Lansinoh Laboratories is expanding its product offering with six new items for mass outlets in 2014, which are being introduced this week at the ABC Kids Expo, the company announced Wednesday.  

The items are inspired by Lansinoh's new Pump-Store-Feed system, and are designed to make breastfeeding as convenient as possible. The new products include two breast pumps and a redesign of the Lansinoh mOmma bottle.

The Lund Report, an online publication that covers Oregon's healthcare system, reported that Gary Schnabel was stepping down to pursue "other interests." Schnabel turned 65 years old this month and has lead the board for 19 years.

Allergy sufferers will have a new treatment option available to them by the spring allergy season. Sanofi on Friday announced that the Food and Drug Administration approved Nasacort Allergy 24HR nasal spray (triamcinolone intranasal) as an over-the-counter treatment for seasonal and year-round nasal allergies in adults and children 2 years of age and older.

The healthcare services company said it achieved the Service Capability and Performance standards, set by Service Strategies and several other technology companies.

The drug market in Brazil is expected to grow to nearly $60 billion by the next decade, but problems remain with coverage of the population, according to a new report.

LONDON — The drug market in Brazil is expected to grow to nearly $60 billion by the next decade, but problems remain with coverage of the population, according to a new report.

The report, by research and consulting firm GlobalData, found that the Brazilian market would experience compounded annual growth of 12.7%, expanding from $12.4 billion in 2007 to $58.8 billion in 2020.

Flu is at the top of the list of diseases older adults plan to ask about, according to results from a new Harris Interactive consumer awareness survey, sponsored by Merck. Most of the more than 600 surveyed adults age 60 years and older are at least somewhat likely to ask their healthcare professional about preventing the flu this year, and are significantly more likely to ask about this than prevention of such other potentially serious diseases as shingles.
