NEW YORK — Officials in Rhode Island may set up a registry that would allow doctors and pharmacists to track patients who have problems with drug abuse, according to published reports.

The Associated Press reported that the proposed registry would track prescriptions for drugs that are controlled substance and allow healthcare professionals to track their usage, similar to a monitoring program set up in New York this year. A task force that includes state lawmakers, health officials and healthcare professionals met Monday to look at the idea.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is offering a $5 discount on flu shots as a way to encourage more people to protect themselves, the retail pharmacy chain said.

Rite Aid said that in recognition of National Influenza Vaccination Week, which runs between Dec. 8 and Dec. 14, it would offer flu shots at its stores for $24.99. NIVW started in 2005 as a national campaign by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which recommends annual flu shots for everyone aged 6 months and older.

SEATTLE — Bartell Drugs will open retail clinics at three of its stores under a partnership with a local health organization, the Seattle-based regional drug store chain said Monday.

Bartell said it would partner with Group Health Cooperative to open clinics at two stores in Seattle and one in the neighboring city of Bellevue, Wash., staffed by nurse practitioners from Group Health. The program is called CareClinic: Group Health at Bartell Drugs, or CareClinic for short, and the initial three clinics will open between January and March 2014.
