Two Florida lawmakers have introduced legislation in the Florida State Senate and Florida House of Representatives, respectively, that aims to apply standards to pharmacy audits and rein in practices that could negatively impact patient care, small business community pharmacies and state revenue. The legislation has received a nod of approval from the National Community Pharmacists Association.

The National Community Pharmacists Association praised Hawaii elected officials for enacting two new laws that, respectively, will give the state’s residents greater choice of where to fill their prescriptions and additional medical privacy protections.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Community Pharmacists Association on Tuesday praised Hawaii elected officials for enacting two new laws that, respectively, will give the state’s residents greater choice of where to fill their prescriptions and additional medical privacy protections. NCPA fully supported HB 62 and HB 65, both of which passed the Hawaii House and Senate unanimously and were signed into law by Gov. Neil Abercrombie on June 27.

The National Community Pharmacists Association commended Texas Gov. Rick Perry for signing into law two significant pieces of legislation in support of Texas small business independent community pharmacies: HB 1358, legislation that provides common sense standards to pharmacy audits conducted by pharmacy benefit managers, and SB 1106, which provides transparency in generic maximum allowable costs, or MACs, for Medicaid plans.

A new bill (HB 365) in Florida's state legislature would allow pharmacists to substitute biosimilars for branded biotech drugs, according to published reports.

A new bill (HB 365) in Florida's state legislature would allow pharmacists to substitute biosimilars for branded biotech drugs, according to published reports. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported that the Health Quality Subcommittee of the Florida House of Representatives approved a bill that would allow for substitution while requiring pharmacists to notify prescribing physicians within five days and require the doctor and pharmacist to maintain a record for at least four years. A similar bill (SB 732) is pending in the Florida Senate, according to reports.

Rob Schenck, R-District 44, which would restrict the dispensing of controlled substances on Schedule II and III to publicly traded pharmacy chains and pharmacies that have more than $100 million in taxable revenues, or only those independent community pharmacies that have been in business more than 10 years.
