Supervalu on Monday announced Robert Bly will join the company as president of Shoppers, a 56-store division in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., market.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Monday announced Robert Bly will join the company as president of Shoppers, a 56-store division in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., market.

Bly is expected to begin his new role on Aug. 22 and will report to Chuck Elias, SVP retail operations. Bly replaces Tim Lowe, who recently accepted a new leadership role in Supervalu's merchandising organization.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion customers can support their favorite schools when they participate in the MVP Classroom Rewards program.

When customers shop with their MVP cards, a portion of their grocery bills spent only on qualified store-brand products is automatically credited to the shoppers' local school of choice. Donations up to $2,500 will be distributed three times per year to schools in January, May and September.

CARLISLE, Pa. — An Ahold USA executive has received honors from a New England business publication.

Ahold USA announced Tuesday that EVP and CFO Paula Price was named 2012 CFO of the Year in the public company category by the Boston Business Journal and was honored at the newspaper's annual luncheon last Wednesday. Ahold USA, a subsidiary of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold, operates the Stop & Shop, Giant-Landover and Giant-Carlisle supermarket chains and the Peapod online grocery service.

Ahold USA announced the appointment of Erik Keptner to the newly created position of EVP marketing. The search for an EVP merchandising is ongoing, the company said. Ahold USA operates the Giant-Carlisle, Giant-Landover and Stop & Shop chains and the online grocery service Peapod.

ALBANY, N.Y. — Grocery chain ShopRite is opening a ShopRite-branded gas station/convenience store in Albany, N.Y., in September, according to published reports.

The station currently is a Mobil and is located near a ShopRite grocery store on the same block that opened in April, and marks ShopRite’s second branded gas station, according to reports. The first station is located in Middletown, N.Y. The new 16-pump station will offer discounts to holders of the grocer’s Price Plus Club card.

WABAN, Mass. — Publix, Hy-Vee, H-E-B, Sam's Club, Winn-Dixie, ShopRite and Giant Eagle were among the highest-rated companies for customer service, according to new research from the Temkin Group.

Among the winners, grocery chains were the only industry to earn a "strong" rating. Retailers, fast food chains, appliance makers and investment firms rounded out the top five. But consumers gave very low ratings to TV service providers and Internet service providers.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two North Carolina-based grocery stores have announced a purchase and sale agreement.

Harris Teeter will acquire 10 of the Lowes Foods' store locations in the central Carolinas region, while Lowes Foods will acquire six Harris Teeter store locations in western North Carolina. In addition to six of its stores being acquired by Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter said it also will pay the latter $26.5 million. The transaction is expected to be completed in the company's third quarter of fiscal 2012, which ends July 1.

Supervalu is bringing its Save-A-Lot banner to Atlantic City, N.J.

The store, which opened Thursday, will become the first full-service grocery store within a 21-mile radius of the city, the company said. The Atlantic City location is the 11th Save-A-Lot store in New Jersey.
