Made with crunchy clusters of whole grain oats, the new variety packs 25 g of whole grain and 6 g of protein per serving. Like all Back to Nature products, it has no artificial preservatives, flavors or colors. The new product variety complements an existing line of granolas featuring ingredients like blueberries, cherries, almonds, pecans, honey and chocolate.

The brand has launched new peanut butter varieties under its Planters NUT-rition line, which include such ingredients as bananas, granola, berries, raisins, cinnamon and nuts. As part of the launch, Planters has introduced a mascot for the products, named Peanut Butter Doug.

Martin's Food Markets, part of the Ahold USA's Giant-Carlisle chain, announced it had partnered with the Richmond City Health District and Greater Richmond Fit4Kids in launching "Healthy Ideas" checkout lanes at the stores. After strong growth, the cereal/granola bar category is showing slower growth. A report on “Food Bars in the U.S.” by Packaged Facts estimated U.S. sales of 
cereal/granola bars at $3.1 billion in 2011, with flat sales for the overall category, despite some growth in premium granola bars. Experian Simmons data showed that 40% of adults use cereal/granola bar products overall, said David Sprinkle, research director at Packaged Facts.

New Kraft MilkBite milk and granola bars combine milk with whole grain granola and other ingredients, such as fruit or roasted nuts, while providing the same calcium as an 8-oz. glass of milk, the company said. The bars are available in five flavors, including chocolate, strawberry, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin and mixed berry, for a suggested retail price of $3.49.

SAN FRANCISCO — Emerald has added "fun packs" to its lineup of Breakfast on the go! nut and granola mixes.

The "fun packs" line includes two flavors: berries and creme and chocolate peanut butter banana. Each "fun pack" contains 200 calories or less, the company said.

Emerald said its Breakfast on the go! fun packs will hit store shelves this fall.
