EDMONTON, Alberta — Canadian pharmacy retailer Rexall celebrated on Friday the opening of its newest drug store at Northgate Centre.

Attending the grand opening celebration was Paul Chidley, divisional VP of Rexall, Tony Caterina, councillor for the City of Edmonton, and Janice Sarich, MLA for Edmonton-Decore, as well as employees and members of the community. This marks the 24th Rexall location in the city of Edmonton.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Foods must carry gluten content of less than 20 parts per million in order to carry the label "gluten-free," according to a new regulation issued by the Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA announced the regulation Wednesday, saying the standard would provide consumers with the assurance that "gluten-free" claims on product labeling are consistent and reliable across the food industry; other labels, such as "no gluten" and "without gluten" also would be subject to the new standard.

Schnuck Markets said it was in the process of remodeling its store in Centralia, Ill., which would make room for expanded services. Among these are a larger number of gluten-free foods in grocery and frozen-food areas. The section featuring the products will go from four feet to 16 feet.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Thirty-five Giant Food Stores and Martin's Food Markets stores in Pennsylvania and Virginia will sponsor drug take-back events later this month.

The chains, which collectively comprise Ahold USA's Giant-Carlisle banner, will sponsor the events on April 27, in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Patients can bring expired and unwanted medications, which will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner for free.
