Jewel-Osco has announced that Scott Hays has been named VP operations for the Chicagoland grocery store.

ITASCA, Ill. — Jewel-Osco has announced that Scott Hays has been named VP operations for the Chicagoland grocery store. 

Most recently a district manager with Albertsons LLC’s Southern division, Hays will lead the operations team to support Jewel-Osco’s marketing and merchandising initiatives, including the company’s upcoming remodels and opening their five newly acquired Dominick’s locations.

ITASCA, Ill. — New Albertson’s has acquired five Dominick’s locations and appointed Shane Sampson, currently president of the company’s Boston-based Shaw’s Division, as president of the Jewel-Osco division based in Chicago. 

Sampson fills the role that had been held by interim division president Jim Rice since January 2014.

Sampson’s first project highlights the company’s commitment to investing in Chicago: Remodeling and reopening five additional former Dominick’s locations.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — A national gay-rights organization has given Walgreens top marks for its practices related to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

In its 2014 Corporate Equality Index, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation gave the Deerfield, Ill.-based retail pharmacy chain a "perfect" score of 100. 2014 is the ninth year that Walgreens has won a perfect score.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens recently fine-tuned its merchandising leadership structure, most notably elevating Jim Jensen to VP daily living implementation and space planning, where he will be looking at maximizing merchandising initiatives against space optimization in the stores. Moe Alkemade will assume the role of general merchandise manager handling seasonal, sundries and consumables; and Beth Stiller has been named group VP retail brands and global sourcing. 

All appointments are effective Nov. 4.

CHICAGO — Peapod is offering customers in the Chicago area organic produce from a local, indoor urban farming company, shortly after its announcement of a new pickup location near the city.

The online grocer said its Chicagoland customers would be able to buy salad mixes, arugula, basil, mint and others from Farmedhere. Farmedhere uses aquaponic growing techniques that combine hydroponics with aquaculture.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA has appointed Nick Bertram as its SVP store strategy and execution, the supermarket operator said Thursday.

Bertram previoulsy worked for Jewel-Osco, where he oversaw operations across Illinois, Indiana and Iowa. He was also SVP of Supervalu and worked in executive positions at Walmart in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. His new position at Ahold USA will be based out of the company's Carlisle, Pa., headquarters.

Target has announced that it has expanded its Beauty Concierge program to 41 Chicagoland stores and introduced the program to 96 existing stores in the Los Angeles and Orange County area.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target has announced that it has expanded its Beauty Concierge program to 41 Chicagoland stores and introduced the program to 96 existing stores in the Los Angeles and Orange County area.

In addition, the program will launch in 27 stores in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Baltimore area and 36 stores in Minneapolis, with approximately 200 stores implementing the program in 2013.
