This year's campaign brings the total donation from the annual Support for People with Disabilities campaign, along with other fundraising activities, to $150 million to benefit some of the most respected and prominent charities that help people with disabilities live fuller lives.

Safeway announced that its board of directors approved an increase to its regular quarterly cash dividend from $0.175 per share to $0.20 per share, reflecting a 14% increase.

PLEASANTON, Calif. — Safeway on Tuesday announced that its board of directors approved an increase to its regular quarterly cash dividend from $0.175 per share to $0.20 per share, reflecting a 14% increase. 

The board also declared a cash dividend of $0.20 per share payable on July 11, 2013 to stockholders of record at the close of business on June 20, 2013.

Murad will move to the new location at 2121 Park Place in El Segundo, Calif., sometime in early 2014.

SEATTLE — A growing beauty brand led by a former executive from Starbucks has secured more than $10 million in financing from a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

Julep Beauty, founded by Jane Park, said it received $10.3 million in Series B financing from Andreessen Horowitz, led by former Netscape co-founder Marc Andreessen. Maveron — the venture capital firm co-founded by investor Dan Levitan and Starbucks chairman and CEO Howard Schultz — participated in the funding.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. announced Dan Meyer has been promoted to EVP retail operations. In this position, Meyer will be responsible for the retail operations of all 167 Stater Bros. Supermarkets as well as overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Corporate Training Center.

Meyer is a 42-year member of the Stater Bros. "family." He first joined Stater Bros. in 1971 as a Courtesy Clerk at the company's La Sierra Supermarket in Riverside and progressed through a range of retail store and district supervision positions.

MINNEAPOLIS — The first of Target's smaller-format CityTarget urban stores are slated to open on July 25 in Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle.

Two years in the making, the smaller stores will feature broad offerings in a space two-thirds the size of a regular Target store – or 80,000 sq. ft. to 100,000 sq. ft., compared with 135,000 sq. ft. to 175,000 sq. ft.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target is bringing its smaller-format store to the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The 98,000-sq.-ft. CityTarget, which will be located in Westwood, Calif., will open in July 2012. It is the second store of its kind confirmed in the area, with the first being open in October 2012 in downtown Los Angeles.

Target currently has 58 other stores in Los Angeles.

Second-quarter consolidated sales for regional supermarket chain Stater Bros. were up more than 3%, the company said.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Second-quarter consolidated sales for regional supermarket chain Stater Bros. were up more than 3%, the company said.

Sales totaled $913.4 million for the period ended March 27, an increase of $27.9 million or 3.15%, compared with the year-ago period. Similarly, same-store sales also increased 3.15% or $27.9 million.

Stater Bros. also reported net income for the 13-week second quarter of $8.8 million, compared with net income of $6 million for second quarter 2010.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Bolthouse Farms is tackling junk food with a new campaign for its baby carrots.

In conjunction with the growers alliance A Bunch of Carrot Farmers, Bolthouse Farms kicked off its Eat 'Em Like Junk Food campaign, which markets the wholesome snack by playfully mocking the marketing of junk food items.

The initial test effort of the campaign was kicked off last September in Syracuse, N.Y., and Cincinnati.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stater Bros. Markets, which operates 167 supermarkets in southern California, has named Mike Slaton VP real estate. Previously, Slaton was senior director of real estate, a position that will be eliminated. Slaton reports to Jim Lee, president and COO. 

Slaton, who has more than 27 years of real estate experience, joined Stater Bros. in 1981 as a courtesy clerk at the company’s North Redlands store, and in 1984 moved to the company's headquarters as a real estate analyst.
