The National Association of Chain Drug Stores has announced the winners of the 2013 NACDS Total Store Expo Product Showcase.

The 160 products, ranging from health and beauty to seasonal items, were on display in the “Product Showcase” on the exhibit floor.

NEW YORK — The Food and Drug Administration is looking to regulate flavored cigars, according to published reports.

According to the New York Times, the FDA intends to regulate cigars and other tobacco products, much as it regulates cigarettes, but it hasn't given a timetable. Under the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act of 2009, the agency banned almost every flavor of cigarette except menthol — including candy, fruit and clove flavors — but flavored cigars and pipe tobacco are still permitted.

Harris Teeter announced the Aug. 28 grand opening of a new store in the Creedmoor Village Shopping Center.

WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Harris Teeter announced this week the grand opening of a new store in the Creedmoor Village Shopping Center here. The store will open on Aug. 28 with a pharmacy open seven days per week.

The company is celebrating the grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. as well as weekend activities to introduce community members to the "H.T. Difference."

Still, according to the National Retail Federation, July retail sales (excluding automobiles, gas stations and restaurants) increased 0.3% seasonally adjusted from June and increased 5% unadjusted year-over-year.

NEW YORK — The family that runs American Greetings card company is taking the company back to private, according to published reports.

The New York Times reported today that American Greetings is no longer trading on the New York Stock Exchange. The family that has run the business for more than a century, along with several investors, is said to acquire the Cleveland-based company in April.

"The chains that do the best in this category are those that make an intentional decision to be in the business. The Charity Gift Registry allows customers to purchase an item and donate it to a child in need in the store, through mobile or online. Items include sports equipment, yard games, puzzles, toys, art supplies and board games. Share Our Strength's No Kind Hungry campaign is the first cause to be supported by the registry. With themed school supplies once again a trend, cartoon character-themed supplies are desired by 22% of high school students, according to the survey. Pop singer-themed supplies are most popular among middle school students at 43%.
