Frito-Lay is spicing up its Doritos, Fritos and Ruffles brands with a zesty offering.

PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay is spicing up its Doritos, Fritos and Ruffles brands with a zesty offering.

Each of the three chips brands now will include a Tapatio hot sauce-flavored product. All three Tapatio-flavored Frito-Lay products include a unique combination of red chili peppers, spices and a hint of garlic — the same ingredients used to create the original Tapatio hot sauce recipe.

New Tapatio-flavored Doritos, Fritos and Ruffles are available at select retailers for a suggested retail price of 99 cents each for small bags and $2.99 each for large bags.

PURCHASE, N.Y. — After complaints about Frito-Lay's noisy biodegradable bags for its SunChips brand were made loud and clear by consumers, the bags now deliver the same eco-friendly message on a quieter scale.

SunChips unveiled its hushed compostable bags and has asked consumers for feedback on its Facebook page. So far, the feedback has been positive.

DALLAS — Reducing sodium is at the top of consumer request lists when it comes to what they want in snacks, according to Frito-Lay. SymphonyIRI data showed that 52% of consumers in 2009 identified low sodium as an important snack attribute — up from 43% in 2007.


Manufacturers are giving consumers what they want. Frito-Lay, for example, continues to expand its lightly salted chip varieties, which offer 50% less sodium per ounce per serving.

STAMFORD, Conn. — A nut snack brand now is part of a candy company's portfolio.

DeMet's Candy Co. said it has completed its acquisition of the TrueNorth brand from Frito-Lay North America, a PepsiCo division. The acquisition is said to build on the confectioner's existing portfolio, which includes such treats as Flipz, Treasures and Stixx. DeMet's is owned by a private equity fund.

Frito-Lay will reformulate half of its snack products to be completely natural by the end of 2011. The products will include no artificial or synthetic ingredients, no artificial flavors and no preservatives, including MSG.

PLANO, Texas — Frito-Lay has vowed to reformulate the ingredient mix of about half of its snack products to be completely natural — including three of its biggest brands: Lay's, Tostitos and Sunchips — by the end of 2011, the company announced Tuesday. Once reformulated, the products  will contain only all-natural ingredients, and will include no artificial or synthetic ingredients, no artificial flavors and no preservatives, including MSG. The company maintained that the changes will not impact the products’ flavor.

PLANO, Texas After launching eco-friendly bags for its SunChips brand, Frito-Lay again is looking to revamp the packaging.

According to a report by USA Today, Frito-Lay said it is removing the noisy material found in the compostable bags. While they are environmentally friendly, the bags have received negative customer feedback.

Fritos Lightly Salted corn chips and Ruffles Lightly Salted potato chips are the newest entries to join Lay’s Lightly Salted potato chips in the brand’s lineup of reduced-sodium snacks. The new products contain 50% less sodium per 1 oz. serving than their original counterparts.
