The philanthropic arm of supermarket operator Bi-Lo Holdings is donating more than $3 million to charities in the South, the company said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The philanthropic arm of supermarket operator Bi-Lo Holdings is donating more than $3 million to charities in the South, the company said.

The Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation said it would donate about $3.2 million to 281 non-profit organizations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, particularly organizations focused on hunger, education, health, women and children. Bi-Lo Holdings operates the Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie supermarket banners.

Feeding America has announced that the Food Lion Charitable Foundation and The Western Union Foundation have rejoined forces to donate $200,000 to Feeding America and nine of its member food banks.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Feeding America has announced that the Food Lion Charitable Foundation and The Western Union Foundation have rejoined forces to donate $200,000 to Feeding America and nine of its member food banks.
 
The Food Lion Charitable Foundation’s contribution is in support of addressing child hunger, while The Western Union Foundation is funding the educational component. The grant focuses on students in the communities that Food Lion and Western Union serve.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Mass merchandise chain Shopko's philanthropic arm is donating nearly $1 million to charity organizations.

The Shopko Foundation announced Monday that it would donate $981,000 to its four grant programs: Community Charitable Grants, Green Bay Area Grants, Teammate Community Service Grants and Teammate and Family Scholarships.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid will be among the industry sponsors of a benefit for women's cancer research, the retail pharmacy chain said Thursday.

Rite Aid announced that it would field run-walk teams for the Entertainment Industry Foundation Revlon Run/Walk for Women events in New York and Los Angeles, while Revlon will donate $25,000 in Rite Aid beauty product sales. The retailer also will offer Revlon coupons online and will sell exclusive nail polish shades.

Kerr Drug is launching a drive to collect food to donate to needy families for Thanksgiving, the retail pharmacy chain said.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Kerr Drug is launching a drive to collect food to donate to needy families for Thanksgiving, the retail pharmacy chain said.

Through Nov. 15, the Kerr Cares for Kids Foundation is placing collection bins at the front of every Kerr Drug store where customers can place nonperishable food items, which the company will distribute to charitable organizations.

The drive follows a school supply drive in August that helped 90 organizations across North Carolina, such as Boys and Girls clubs, mission houses, women's shelters and others.

CHICAGO — Food Lion's charitable arm once again has teamed up with the Western Union Foundation to support Feeding America.

The Food Lion Charitable Foundation and the Western Union Foundation donated $220,000 to 11 Feeding America food banks. The funds were presented to the respective food banks at the Food Lion corporate offices in Salisbury, N.C., on Wednesday.
