Xiang-Dong Wang and Mario Ferruzzi were awarded the Mary Swartz Rose Senior Investigator Award and the Mary Swartz Rose Young Investigator Award, respectively, at ASN’s Scientific Sessions and Annual Meeting.

CARLISLE, Pa. — A health-and-wellness conference that brings together retail dietitians and nutritionists has tapped Ahold USA and its Giant Carlisle division as the event's retail host.

Field Trip Factory's third annual Dietitian Summit, which strives to generate awareness about the food industry's commitment to consumer health, will be held next month at a Giant Super Food store in Willow Grove, Pa. About 40 retail dietitians and nutritionists are expected to attend the three-day conference.

WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. — Tops Markets shoppers should expect to see something new on store shelves.

The regional supermarket chain recently announced its implementation of nutrition scoring system NuVal, which allows consumers to see the nutritional value of foods they purchase by looking at the items' shelf tags. Tops, who will roll out the program in 1,000 stores, joins a breadth of retailers that have rolled out the NuVal system in their stores.

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Bi-Lo has developed and launched its own nutritional tagging system that identifies healthful attributes in particular foods.

The retailer said the system features a wide range of categories established by Bi-Lo’s registered dietitian, Monica Amburn. Amburn said the system allows customers to create positive attitudes about healthy eating.

The tags highlight such benefits as "low sodium" or "an excellent source of vitamin C," as well as gluten-free and organic products.
