NEW YORK — The National Advertising Division last week recommended that Interhealth Nutraceuticals discontinue certain claims for the company’s Zychrome dietary supplements, products that are promoted for the management of insulin levels.

Print and internet claims made by Interhealth for its Zychrome chromium compound, also known as chromium dinicocysteinate, were challenged by Nutrition 21, the manufacturer of a competing product, Chromax, a chromium picolinate product. Interhealth had been making comparison claims against the supplement ingredient in Chromax. 

One-third of supermarkets have a dietitian walking their aisles, according to a recent report published by Advertising Age. And almost 9-in-10 grocers have a dietitian housed in their corporate suites. 

WASHINGTON — The Council for Responsible Nutrition last week issued recommended guidelines for caffeine-containing dietary supplement products, expanding its self-regulatory initiatives that encourage best practices within the supplement industry.

The program will include interactive tours, one-on-one shopping assistance and nutrition counseling, among other features, according to the report. Service fees will range from $15 to $150. 

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Sixty-two percent of teenagers say they don't eat breakfast every day of the week, according to a new report released Monday that investigates the link between nutrition, physical activity and academic performance.

The report, "The Wellness Impact: Enhancing Academic Success Through Healthy School Environments", was the work of the GENYOUth Foundation, National Dairy Council, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American School Health Association.

WASHINGTON — Two nonprofit groups focused on asthma and allergies will merge to combine their efforts.

The Kids with Food Allergies Foundation will become a division of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, and the combined organization will provide education, advocacy, research, social networking and support for families living with the diseases. The groups' boards agreed to merge in 2012.

With Weight Watchers, every food has a PointsPlus value that takes into account the food's protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. Based on Weight Watchers' calculation, AllWhites and Better'n Eggs have 0 PointsPlus value per serving.

SAN ANTONIO — H-E-B on Thursday announced that it is introducing more ways to help customers eat and live healthier in 2013, including the introduction of a nutrition labeling system and a weekly newsletter filled with healthy tips, recipes and coupons.

BOSTON — Being mildly vitamin B-12 deficient could be an indication that some older adults are at a greater risk for accelerated cognitive decline, according to an observational study from researchers at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University released Wednesday.
