With a little more than three months to go before the start of the first NACDS Total Store Expo show, which replaces its Marketplace, Pharmacy and Technology, and Supply Chain conferences, DSNTV caught up with the NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson to talk about the biggest challenges facing the industry as the association celebrates its 80th anniversary.

PALM BEACH, Fla. — This is going to be a big year for community pharmacy as the nation counts down to full implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2014. And the National Association of Chain Drug Stores is committed to helping its members navigate a regulatory process for what is still a “very complicated and still uncertain piece of legislation,” NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson told DSNTV in an exclusive interview in April at Annual Meeting in Palm Beach.

TAMPA, Fla. — Not Your Mother’s hair care brand expanded its U.S. retail distribution with more than 10,000 stores and almost doubled its SKU count in first quarter 2014, and now the manufacturer is broadening its international reach by launching in Walmart Mexico.

The brand is already distributed in Australia, South Korea, Brazil and Chile.

Axium Healthcare Pharmacy announced that it will begin to dispense Otezla, the new oral therapy for the treatment of adults with active psoriatic arthritis.

LAKE MARY, Fla. — Axium Healthcare Pharmacy announced that it will begin to dispense Otezla, the new oral therapy for the treatment of adults with active psoriatic arthritis. Axium is one of a limited number of specialty pharmacies selected by drug manufacturer Celgene to dispense Otezla, which was approved by the Food and Drug Administration on March 21.

Publix and Walgreens have partnered with a local coalition to collect expired medications, according to a report in the Delray Beach newspaper the Pineapple published Monday.

Beginning in April, every pharmacy in Publix and Walgreens stores in Palm Beach County will display signs with the location of the nearest pill drop-box as part of Operation Pill Drop.

The legislature is mulling a bill that would alter the structure of Florida’s Board of Pharmacy, raising from one to three the number of seats for pharmacists representing both smaller and larger pharmacies, according to the Associated Press.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The legislature is mulling a bill that would alter the structure of Florida’s Board of Pharmacy, raising from one to three the number of seats for pharmacists representing both smaller and larger pharmacies, according to the Associated Press.

The measure, proposed by Sen. Denise Grimsley, would also reduce from five to one the number of at-large posts for those with pharmacy licenses, the report states.
