NANUET, N.Y. — Allermates today announced it is introducing EpiPen, Auvi-Q and asthma inhaler carrying cases.

The cases come in colorful kid-friendly designs and include AllerMates characters. Each case comes with an emergency contact and medication information card. The EpiPen carrying case is insulated, and comes with an epinephrine auto-injector user guide. The cases, like all AllerMates products, are nickel-, lead-, latex-, BPA- and phthalate-free.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — A division of drug maker Mylan has distributed autoinjectors of an emergency drug used for severe allergic reactions to schools nationwide.

Mylan Specialty said Wednesday that since its August 2012 launch of the EpiPen4Schools program, thousands of schools around the country had elected to participate and receive free EpiPen and EpiPen Jr (epinephrine) auto-injectors. The program was launched to help schools have improved access to epinephrine in the event that a person experiences a life-threatening allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis.

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. — Drug maker Mylan will pass out free EpiPen injectors to children in schools, the company said Tuesday.

Mylan Specialty, the Mylan unit that makes the EpiPen (epinephrine), announced the launch of the EpiPen4Schools program. The program offers four free EpiPen or EpiPen Jr. injectors to public and private school students in kindergarten, elementary, middle and high school, who have valid prescriptions.

Armada and Definitive Homecare Solutions announced the integration of Armada's ApproveRx system with Definitive Homecare's CPR+ specialty pharmacy software. The companies said the integration of the ApproveRx functionality within CPR+ would make it part of the pharmacy dispensing workflow and provide users of CPR+ with "optimal" workflow efficiencies.

ELLENVILLE, N.Y. — The Jolly Group on Monday launched its Sports Shield brand of bandages featuring sports images.

Sports Shield bandages are available in two different sizes — adults and children — and come in eight designs: baseball, basketball, football, soccer, hockey, cheerleading, girls' soccer and fun fashion.

The company will be rolling out two additional designs July 24: a rescue-themed bandage that features fire trucks and ambulances and a ladybug bandage adorned with butterflies and ladybugs.

NEW YORK — Two companies have settled with Teva over the latter's efforts to launch a generic version of an emergency treatment for allergic reactions.

Under the agreement, involving Mylan and Pfizer's Meridian Medical Technologies subsidiary, Teva will be allowed to launch a generic version of EpiPen (epinephrine) auto-injector in June 2015, assuming it wins approval from the Food and Drug Administration. Mylan Specialty markets the EpiPen, which Meridian manufactures.

That was one driver behind the growth in first aid accessories in the summer months — for the 12 weeks ended May 15, sales of overall accessories were up 3.4% to $257.7 million across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart), according to SymphonyIRI Group. Sales of first aid kits across that period were up 15.4% to $5.4 million.

CVS Caremark and CVS/pharmacy colleagues in the region collected and donated first aid and personal care supplies valued at approximately $35,000 to local relief efforts in Joplin. In addition, CVS Caremark has made a $5,000 donation to the American Red Cross.

The FDA on Wednesday issued a total of four warning letters, including the one to Tec Labs, to companies that manufacture and market products claiming to prevent infection from methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, or MRSA.
