WILTON, Conn. — The North American manufacturer and marketer of fabric care and household care products has named its leader as the chairman of the board.

Jeffrey Ansell will begin serving as chairman of the board of Sun Products, effective immediately. Ansell succeeds Neil DeFeo, who will remain on the board as a nonexecutive director.

Sales of craft kits and art supplies “remain strong with a slight uptick,” according to Adrienne Appell, a spokeswoman for the Toy Industry Association. This segment of the toy category was up 7% in 2010 over 2009, according to the NPD Group, and is expected to perform well in 2011.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new means of administering a cancer drug made by Takeda, the drug maker said.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new means of administering a cancer drug made by Takeda, the drug maker said.

The FDA approved injection under the skin of Velcade (bortezomib) for multiple myeloma and mantle-cell lymphoma, also known as subcutaneous injection.

Takeda said the approval was based on results of a phase-3 trial conducted on 222 patients who had not received the drug before that showed subcutaneous injection worked as well as intravenous injection.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new manufacturing plant that will be operated by drug maker Genzyme.

Genzyme said the plant, located in Framingham, Mass., will help the company continue the production of Fabrazyme (agalsidase beta), a Fabry disease treatment, so that patients can be return to the full dosing levels (1 mg/kg).

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Hy-Vee has introduced a mobile application that it said could make locating pie crust in its stores as easy as saying "pie."

The supermarket chain announced the release of the app, which allows customers to locate products, browse ads, search for recipes, build shopping lists, shop and interact with the company through social media. The app is built on the AT&T Mobile Enterprise Applications Platform and uses Taqtile Mobility's Shingle solution.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer's stores in Michigan will "prominently" feature 49 products made in the state as part of a program to promote local businesses, the mass merchandise retailer said.

The chain is partnering with the Michigan State University Product Center for Agriculture and Natural Resources to launch the "Made in Michigan" initiative, whereby 33 stores will feature 49 such grocery items as marinara sauce, blueberry butter, gluten-free baking mixes and gourmet seasonings in specially designated areas of the store starting on Sunday.

Acura said it was informed by Pfizer that Oxecta has hit the market in 5-mg and 7.5-mg strengths, which will be sold in 100-count bottles. Oxecta is indicated for the management of acute and chronic moderate to severe pain where the use of an opioid analgesic is appropriate.

QUINCY, Mass. — Stop & Shop announced that its customers and partners donated nearly $2 million through the company's annual fundraising program.

The supermarket chain said it will donate 100% of the funds, raised through the 22nd annual Food for Friends program, to regional food banks and local pantries across the Northeast as part of the company's hunger relief efforts.

The storewide effort ran from Oct. 28 and through Dec. 11, 2011.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — One-in-5 consumers are asking their pharmacists questions about vitamins and supplements, according to a survey of pharmacists that was released Tuesday by Pharmavite.

The survey found that pharmacists estimated they answer questions regarding prescription medications for about half of their customers (51%). By comparison, they estimated they answer questions about OTC products for just 1-in-3 customers (35%) — and when it comes to answering questions about vitamins and supplements, they estimated they do so for 23% of their customers (23%).

NEW YORK — Bristol-Myers Squibb has appointed Toys “R” Us chairman and CEO Jerry Storch to its board of directors, the drug maker said.

Storch will serve as a member of Bristol's audit committee and the compensation and management development committee.

“We are thrilled to have a person of Jerry’s caliber, an industry leader with an excellent track record of success in branding and positioning a global franchise for growth, on our board of directors,” Bristol CEO Lamberto Andreotti said.
