Perrigo Co. will pay up to $129 million to buy Fera Pharmaceuticals' portfolio of ophthalmic products, Perrigo said.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo Co. will pay up to $129 million to buy Fera Pharmaceuticals' portfolio of ophthalmic products, Perrigo said Monday.

Perrigo said the acquisition from Locust Valley, N.Y.-based Fera included an upfront payment of $93 million and milestone payments of about $36 million. The products include generic ophthalmic sterile ointments and solutions and generated sales of more than $30 million in 2012.

NEW YORK — Fera Pharmaceuticals has appointed a new director of national accounts.

The drug maker said that Kevin Wingerter, who most recently served as senior buyer of pharmaceutical merchandising at Walmart, has joined the company. Wingerter brings more than 20 years of experience in procurement of both branded and generic pharmaceuticals, Fera said.

NEW YORK — Fera Pharmaceuticals has launched an ocular bacterial infections treatment.

The company announced the launch of Garamycin (gentamicin sulfate) ophthalmic solution USP, designed to treat such infections as conjunctivitis, keratitis and blepharitis.

Last year, Fera broadened its Garamycin product offerings with the launch of preservative-free Garamycin ophthalmic ointment.

NEW YORK Fera Pharmaceuticals has launched a preservative-free ointment for treating bacterial infections of the eye, the company said Monday.

 

Fera said the launch of Garamycin (gentamicin sulfate) was to meet an unmet need for a preservative-free version of the drug. The Food and Drug Administration had received reports of allergic reactions in infants who had received formulations of the drug with preservatives.
