LAKELAND, Fla. — After more than 46 years of service, Publix Super Markets Miami division VP Bill Fauerbach has announced his decision to retire at the end of March 2014.

“Bill helped grow our culture and build a solid foundation on which the Miami division will continue to grow. We thank him for his many contributions, and he will be missed by us all,” said Publix CEO Ed Crenshaw.

With this retirement, Publix announced the promotion of Kevin Murphy to Miami division VP, effective April 1.

Target co-founder Douglas Dayton passed away during the weekend, according to published reports. He was 88.

NEW YORK — Target Corp. co-founder Douglas Dayton passed away during the weekend, according to published reports. He was 88.

According to Reuters, Dayton is survived by his wife, Wendy, four children and six grandchildren.

Target began as a family-owned company, merging with the J.L. Hudson department store chain in 1969. Dayton became president of Target in 1961, and senior vice president following the merger. The Dayton Hudson Corp. changed its name to Target in 2000. Dayton left the company in 1974.

In April, my wife Ann and I received the tragic news that our dear friend and longtime GMDC colleague Norm Loringer had passed away after nobly battling a series of health issues for a number of years. For those of us who had the privilege of knowing Norm and his wife Marlene over the years, his passing is all the more tragic because we have lost him at far too young of an age when he still had much to do.
