Total group sales for the quarter were €5.64 billion, down 2.2% compared with the year-ago period. On a like-for-like basis, sales rose 3.5%.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Qinyuan generated sales approaching €140 million for the 12-month period Dec. 31.

Ahold USA has opened 120 pickup points for online orders as of the end of 2013, the supermarket operator said Monday.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Ahold USA has opened 120 pickup points for online orders as of the end of 2013, the supermarket operator said Monday.

Ahold, which hopes to triple its online food sales by 2016, said the opening of pickup points in the United States and Europe would be an important part of reaching that goal. Most of the pickup points in the United States are operated under the Stop & Shop, Giant Food of Landover, Md., and Giant Food Stores of Carlisle, Pa., banners. The 120 pickup points compare with only eight a year ago.

David Cheesewright has been promoted to president and CEO of Walmart International, the company's second-largest operating segment.

Currently president and CEO of Walmart's Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Canada region, David Cheesewright has been promoted to president and CEO of Walmart International, the company's second-largest operating segment.

Cheesewright will report to Doug McMillon, who was tapped to succeed Mike Duke as the company's president and CEO. Both assume their new roles Feb. 1, 2014. Cheesewright's successor will be named at a later date.

German chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer plans to buy Norwegian drug maker Algeta for $2.4 billion, Algeta confirmed Tuesday.

OSLO, Norway — German chemical and pharmaceutical giant Bayer plans to buy Norwegian drug maker Algeta for $2.4 billion, Algeta confirmed Tuesday.

Responding to earlier media reports, the Norway-based maker of cancer drugs said Bayer would acquire it for 336 krone per share, equal to about $55.05. The company's share price increased to 349.40 krone, or $57.21 per share, in late-afternoon trading Tuesday on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Panayotopoulos joined P&G in 1977. He served in sales and general management roles spanning Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, eventually overseeing all P&G brands as vice chair – Global Business Units. As previously announced, he was elected to his current role as advisor to the CEO effective July 1, 2013.

HAMBURG, Germany — Skin care brand Beiersdorf reported that its consumer business segment achieved “significant, above-market sales growth” during the first nine months of 2013, with both Nivea and Eucerin enjoying a boost in sales.

Adjusted for the impact of foreign exchange differences, the company increased its sales by 7.3%. In nominal terms, sales increased by 2.4%, from €4.566 billion to €4.674 billion. Consolidated profit rose from €358 million to €433 million.

ZAGREB, Croatia — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries is investing more than $100 million in its Croatian division for a plant that will make pills mostly for the international market.

Teva subsidiary Pliva said the new plant, in the capital of Zagreb, would considerably increase its production capacities for tablets and capsules. The company said the new plant would increase the annual manufacturing capacity by more than 25%.

BRUSSELS — The CEO of Delhaize Group's European division has resigned, effective Oct. 31, the Belgian supermarket operator said.

Delhaize said Stefan Descheemaeker had decided to resign as CEO of Delhaize Europe, though the company did not give a reason. Delhaize said that as a result of Descheemaeker's departure, Delhaize Group EVP and Delhaize Group Southeast Europe and Asia CEO Kostas Macheras would report directly to group CEO Pierre-Olivier Beckers, as would Delhaize Belgium CEO Dirk Van den Berghe, effective Nov. 1.

The institute, part of the global investment bank, released the report Wednesday titled "Sugar: Consumption at a Crossroads," which explores the medical, economic, consumer, corporate and public policy elements of global sugar consumption and what it means for investors.

Hospira announced Tuesday the European Medicines Agency's approval of Inflectra (infliximab) for the treatment of autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis.
