Johnson & Johnson on Monday announced that Mark McClellan, senior fellow in economic studies and director of the Initiative on Value and Innovation in Health Care at the Brookings Institution, will join the company's board of directors on Oct. 15. McClellan will serve on the regulatory, compliance and government affairs committee, as well as the science, technology and sustainability committee.

Flu is at the top of the list of diseases older adults plan to ask about, according to results from a new Harris Interactive consumer awareness survey, sponsored by Merck. Most of the more than 600 surveyed adults age 60 years and older are at least somewhat likely to ask their healthcare professional about preventing the flu this year, and are significantly more likely to ask about this than prevention of such other potentially serious diseases as shingles.

DeParle will be an independent director and will serve on the board’s audit committee, according to the filing.

All of Target's stores in Canada have been certified for sustainability, the retailer said Thursday.

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario — All of Target's stores in Canada have been certified for sustainability, the retailer said Thursday.

Target said that all of the 68 stores it operates in Canada have been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED certification; most recently, 44 were certified. The company plans to have all 124 stores it is opening this year LEED-certified.

NEW YORK — For the second year in a row, online grocer Peapod is working with a Wisconsin farm to deliver organic and heirloom vegetables to customers in the Chicago area.

Peapod, owned by Ahold USA, said customers could order local farm boxes from Viroqua, Wis.-based Harvest Moon Farms and have them delivered to their homes or scheduled for pickup at nearby pickup locations in the Illinois towns of Deerfield, Palatine and Lincolnshire. Produce includes beans, beets, broccoli, kale, Swiss chard, collard greens and heirloom tomatoes.

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has declined to approve a sleeping pill made by Merck & Co., citing issues with dosage.

The drug maker said Monday that it received a complete response letter from the FDA concerning the drug suvorexant, for which it is seeking regulatory approval. A complete response letter means that the agency has finished reviewing its approval application, but questions remain that preclude final approval.

ATLANTA — Health kiosks made by SoloHealth and placed in Sam's Club stores will have a new feature installed to allow users to assess their needs for vitamins and supplements.

The company said its SoloHealth Station kiosks at stores operated by the club retailer would include a Vitamin Assessment module. The module will only be installed on Sam's Club's kiosks, the company said. The kiosks also include screenings for vision, blood pressure, weight and body mass index.

WASHINGTON — A White House trade policy leader has been appointed as U.S. trade representative.

The Senate voted last week to approve Michael Froman to the position. Froman was previously an adviser to President Barack Obama on international economic affairs and replaces acting U.S. Trade Representative Miriam Sapiro.

Organic Oscar said its line of pet shampoo had hit Target's shelves this month, marking its biggest expansion since the company's official launch in 2011. The company was founded in 2007. The shampoo, which is natural and biodegradable, is available for $9.99 per bottle.
