"The challenge has been for policy-makers to understand the value that OTC medicines bring." But that may change this year, Melville said, as CHPA continues to lobby around that OTC value quotient.

NEW YORK — Target is looking to compete with the likes of Netflix and Hulu with a video-streaming service it is beta testing with employees, according to published reports.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal reported that the mass merchandise retailer was testing Target Ticket, which currently offers access to 15,000 movies and TV shows. Features of the new service include parental controls, streaming and downloading for playback on desktop computers and mobile devices.

Rite Aid announced the launch of its "Nail Extravaganza," based around the two-round "Search for the Rite Aid Nail Enthusiast" contest; the first round runs through May 24. Contestants compete for 20 prizes by submitting nail designs at Riteaidnails.com.

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — Drug maker Merck is seeking regulatory approval for an experimental tablet placed under the tongue that could be used to treat ragweed allergies.

Merck said the Food and Drug Administration accepted a regulatory application for its ragweed pollen sublingual allergy immunotherapy tablet. Ragweed, also known as Ambrosia artemisiifolia, is a major cause of seasonal allergies in the United States. Merck also submitted an application for a similar drug, for Timothy grass pollen allergies, in March.

The dollhouse, used to promote the Threshold collection through Tuesday evening, includes seven rooms upstairs and downstairs furnished with the new products, though only the downstairs rooms are accessible. The display was featured in the century-old, iconic train station's Vanderbilt Hall.

WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug made by Merck for treating high cholesterol, the drug maker said.

Merck announced the approval of Liptruzet (ezetimibe and atorvastatin). The drug combines two preexisting cholesterol drugs: ezetimibe, which Merck markets under the brand name Zetia, and atorvastatin, which Pfizer markets under the name Lipitor. Both drugs are available as generics, but because Liptruzet is a novel combination of them, it required FDA approval as a new drug.

During the event, the Administration asked companies participating in the Joining Forces initiative to hire and train 435,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years, after nearly tripling its original goal of hiring 100,000 veterans and military spouses by the end of 2013.

FLINT, Mich. — Diplomat Specialty Pharmacy recently took "extreme couponing" to a new level, not to save money for customers, but to collect items for charity.

Diplomat sponsored a contest in which 12 employees competed to see who could buy the most food items and toiletries for local charities using only $25 and coupons. With $300, employees bought $2,160 worth of groceries, which will be donated to Flint, Mich.-based Carriage Town Ministries and St. Luke N.E.W. Life Center.

The report forecast a 0.2% rise in purchases on Mother's Day gifts this year over last year, for a total of $17.1 billion.

The campaign features fifth-generation brewmaster Pete Kraemer, as well as five regional brewmasters. Kraemer's job is to ensure that the Budweiser brewed around the world meets the same standards; he also oversees the growing and research of barley in Colorado and hops grown in Germany. Kraemer's father, Gerhardt, a Hungarian-born German immigrant, was also a brewmaster for the company; Gerhardt Kraemer retired in 2001.
