PIERRE, S.D. — Lewis Drug's VP professional services William "Bill" Ladwig has been selected as the recipient of the 2011 Hustead Award by the South Dakota Pharmacists Association, Lewis Drug has announced.

Ladwig, who has worked for Lewis Drug for 33 years, was selected by his peers in honor of the dedication and service he has shown toward the profession of pharmacy. The award was presented to Ladwig at the association's recent 125th Annual Convention at the Sioux Falls Convention Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — As part of a series on prescription drugs in America, CNN’s “American Morning” program on Wednesday hosted Safeguard My Meds spokesman and National Community Pharmacists Association executive committee member Keith Hodges to discuss pharmacy robberies and prescription drug abuse in a segment called “Pharmacies as Targets.”

“Prescription drug use is on the rise, especially over the last 10 to 15 years, and pharmacies are an easy target,” Hodges told CNN reporter Kiran Chetry.

ALLEGAN, Mich. — Perrigo on Tuesday announced that the Detroit office of the Food and Drug Administration has concluded its re-inspection of Perrigo's Allegan facility.

The FDA has informed Perrigo that, effective immediately, Perrigo has an acceptable regulatory status, such that any pending export license and abbreviated new drug applications from this facility will once again be eligible for review and approval.

NEW YORK — Johnson & Johnson on April 4 will install Pat Mutchler as head of the McNeil Consumer Healthcare unit, according to a Wednesday evening Associated Press report.

According to the report, Johnson & Johnson said the changes will allow the company to "give focused attention to quality and compliance, and the critical task of restoring McNeil Consumer Healthcare brands."
