A former executive of Supervalu has been tapped for a top position at Stater Bros. Markets, the supermarket chain said.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A former executive of Supervalu has been tapped for a top position at Stater Bros. Markets, the supermarket chain said.

Stater Bros. announced that former Supervalu EVP retail operations Peter Van Helden had been hired as president and COO of the privately owned San Bernardino, Calif.-based chain, which operates 167 stores in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Celgene Corp. chairman and CEO Robert Hugin has been elected as chairman of a pharmaceutical industry trade group.

SAN DIEGO — Celgene Corp. chairman and CEO Robert Hugin has been elected as chairman of a pharmaceutical industry trade group.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America announced the election of Hugin, as well as Pfizer president and CEO Ian Read as chairman-elect of the PhRMA board of directors and Merck chairman, president and CEO as board treasurer.

Hugin succeeds Eli Lilly president, chairman and CEO John Lechleiter as chairman, PhRMA said.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Shopko has appointed a former executive from Office Depot as SVP marketing, the company said Wednesday.

The 325-store retailer announced the appointment of Michael Cooper, who will report to Shopko president and chief merchandising officer Jill Soltau.

LOS ANGELES — The Entertainment Industry Foundation is sponsoring the Revlon Run/Walk for Women for the 20th year in a row, the group said Tuesday.

Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde will act as Revlon brand ambassadors and hosts for the New York event, which takes place on May 4, while Halle Berry will do the same for the Los Angeles event, on May 11, along with Entertainment Tonight correspondent Brooke Anderson and Dancing with the Stars host Carrie Ann Inaba.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Wednesday announced additional changes at the senior level as Sam Duncan, Supervalu president and CEO, finalizes his executive leadership team.

Sherry Smith, EVP and CFO, will leave the company at the end of May. Smith has served as the company’s CFO since her appointment in December 2010. She has spent 26 years with Supervalu and previously served as SVP, finance. The company plans to announce a new CFO at a later date.

Indian generic drug maker Dr. Reddy's Labs has appointed G.V. Prasad as chairman of the company, Dr. Reddy's said.

HYDERABAD, India — Indian generic drug maker Dr. Reddy's Labs has appointed G.V. Prasad as chairman of the company, Dr. Reddy's said Tuesday.

Prasad is currently vice chairman and CEO and will continue as chairman and CEO.

Meanwhile, Satish Reddy has been appointed vice chairman in addition to his current role as managing director and COO.

According to the Associated Press, Basha's cause of death was not disclosed, but his family had said his health had been failing.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Generic drug maker Sagent Pharmaceuticals has appointed James Hussey as its president, the company said.

Sagent said the board of directors' appointment of Hussey, 53, would be effective Monday. Hussey will be responsible for the company's commercial operations, including development, regulatory affairs, supply chain activities, sales, marketing and human resources.

JERUSALEM — Teva Pharmaceutical Industries has appointed a former executive from Dyax to its executive team, the Israeli generic drug maker said.

Teva announced the appointment of Ivana Magovčević-Liebisch as SVP and head of corporate business development, effective April 1. Magovčević-Liebisch served as EVP and COO for Dyax, a Burlington, Mass.-based drug company.

The Food and Drug Administration has picked Kathleen Uhl to serve as acting director of the Office of Generic Drugs, the agency said.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — The Food and Drug Administration has picked Kathleen Uhl to serve as acting director of the Office of Generic Drugs, the agency said Tuesday.

In a memo sent out to staff of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, the section of the agency that oversees the OGD, CDER director Janet Woodcock wrote that Uhl most recently served as senior adviser to director Greg Geba, who announced his resignation Thursday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Anthea Jones has assumed the role of president at Bi-Lo. He will continue to serve as SVP operations. 

Jones comes to the position from the Bi-Lo side of the recent merger between regional supermarkets Bi-Lo and Winn-Dixie. He signed on with Bi-Lo in 1999 after 17 years at Food Lion. He also is the immediate past board chairman for the Global Market Development Center. 

Jones succeeds Michael Byars in the position. Randall Onstead continues as president and CEO of the combined company, Bi-Lo Holdings.
