CHICAGO — Hispanics often tick to their own traditions when it comes to selecting protein-rich foods, according to a new study.

Hispanics consume disproportionately high amounts of legumes, eggs, chicken and seafood compared with non-Hispanics, and the level of importance of these foods remains relatively unchanged from five years ago, and tradition and heritage drive meal choices among both Spanish- and English-speaking Hispanics, according to the NPD Group's "NET Hispanic" study. NET stands for "national eating trends."

With Weight Watchers, every food has a PointsPlus value that takes into account the food's protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. Based on Weight Watchers' calculation, AllWhites and Better'n Eggs have 0 PointsPlus value per serving.

The company's lineup this year includes the Nestlé Crunch Paul Frank "Julius the Bunny" solid milk chocolate bunny, which will be exclusively sold at Target for a suggested retail price of $3.49. Other items include:

  • Nestlé Butterfinger bunny, which will carry an SRP of $3.49 per 5.5-oz. package;

  • SweeTarts gummies, which will carry an SRP of $2.49 per 14-oz. package;

NEW YORK Despite concerns that this year's flu vaccine production will be affected by the recent salmonella outbreak, a Food and Drug Administration official and a drug maker advised that is not the case, according to published reports.

Although chicken eggs, which were said to be the source of this summer's salmonella outbreak, are used to make the flu vaccine, an FDA spokeswoman said that chicken eggs used in creating the flu vaccine are fertilized, unlike those used for consumption.
