Looking to help inform consumers on how to best access emergency room alternatives and receive the same medical care with less out-of-pocket cost, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Virginia has announced the creation of a Google Map that identifies all of the ER alternatives available to members throughout the state.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The National Association of Chain Drug Stores is moving quickly to establish a working relationship with newly installed Medicare and Medicaid chief Donald Berwick.

NACDS on Wednesday sent a letter to Berwick, who was tapped by President Obama to serve as the new administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. NACDS president and CEO Steve Anderson urged continued collaboration with CMS on issues related to pharmacy that he said are vital to quality health care and cost reduction.

The newest clinic at Walmart opened its doors on July 8 and marks its second clinic location. The first location opened in December 2009 at the Walmart in Oak Park Heights, Minn.

WASHINGTON The Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday awarded $10 million to 10 national nonprofit organizations to support public health efforts to reduce tobacco use and reduce obesity through increased physical activity and improved nutrition.

These competitive awards are part of the HHS Communities Putting Prevention to Work initiative, a prevention and wellness initiative funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

For health reform to have any real teeth, MTM needs to be a meaningful part of it -- and if MTM is going to have any real teeth, retail pharmacy needs to be a part of it.
