NEW YORK — Mustela, a baby care and stretch marks brand, is expanding its line of dermo-pediatrics products with the new Stelatopia Lipid-Replenishing Balm.

MONTREAL — The Federal Trade Commission has approved a deal by Valeant Pharmaceuticals International to buy a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based drug maker.

Valeant said the FRC had finished reviewing its planned acquisition of Medicis Pharmaceutical and allowed the waiting period required under merger and acquisition laws to terminate early.

Valeant said the deal is still subject to conditions like the approval of Medicis' stockholders, who will have a special meeting on Dec. 7. Medicis makes drugs for asthma, fungal infections and skin conditions like acne and eczema.

According to SymphonyIRI Group, sales of baby lotions totaled nearly $54 million, down 0.35%, for the 52 weeks ended June 10 at food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart), as sales of baby soaps rose 3.42% to $111 million during that same period.


LONDON — Stiefel, a GlaxoSmithKline company, on Monday acquired the eczema remedy Toctino (alitretinoin) from Basilea Pharmaceutica.

“Toctino is an important and growing product that complements the Stiefel portfolio and offers a proven therapy for patients with a significant unmet medical need," stated Simon Jose, Stiefel president. FORT WORTH, Texas — The Cetaphil brand of cleansers and moisturizers has announced the launch of Cetaphil DermaControl products for acne-prone skin.

The line is comprised of Cetaphil DermaControl foam wash and DermaControl moisturizer SPF 30. It is positioned as the first skin care line of its kind designed to complement an acne regimen for sensitive, acne-prone skin.

LOS ANGELES — The National Eczema Association, a nonprofit organization devoted to improving the health and quality of life for those living with eczema, has awarded four MD Moms products with its Seal of Acceptance, which means that the products have been evaluated to determine that they do not contain ingredients or contents that are known to be unsuitable for use by those with eczema or sensitive skin conditions.
