EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Tesco's U.S. subsidiary Fresh & Easy said it's looking to fill more than 100 employee positions, including positions for four new California stores, the company announced Thursday.

Over the next several weeks, Fresh & Easy will open four new stores, which will be located in Los Angeles, Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Sunnyvale, Calif.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy is adding a dozen dishes to its gourmet line.

The line of restaurant-quality products, launched in February, now will include 12 new items, including pizza, Hawaiian pork and more, in addition to "Gourmet for Two" meals, which provide customers with a restaurant-quality meal for two for under $10.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy took home 39 medals for its exclusive wines from the 72nd Annual Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition.

The supermarket retailer said that its California wine range, including its I Heart CA and WineWrights lines, earned several medals. Fresh & Easy's California wines, which retail from $3.99 to $19.99, are sourced from some of the state's premium wine growing regions, including Napa Valley, Sonoma, Monterey and Santa Barbara.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Tesco said it is turning its attention to its U.S. supermarket chain, according to the company's annual report.

According to the company, despite the fact that its U.S. operations, which include its Fresh & Easy supermarket chain, have been slower to recover when compared with its European counterparts, Tesco said, "We are now seeing signs of improvement. ... Customer feedback at Fresh & Easy remains excellent, and strong growth in customer numbers is driving steady sales improvement in each store."

Regional supermarket chain Fresh & Easy said that it is augmenting its gluten-free products range and will highlight the new offerings in stores through additional displays.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Regional supermarket chain Fresh & Easy said that it is augmenting its gluten-free products range and will highlight the new offerings in stores through additional displays.

The company said it has added 15 to 30 new gluten-free items to its stores. Fresh & Easy currently boasts more than 500 products that do not contain naturally occurring gluten ingredients.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Just in time for Earth Day, Fresh & Easy has introduced its private-label household cleaning and paper products.

The retailer's Green Things line, which now is available in stores, features household cleaners that are made with plant-based formulas, are biodegradable and pH-neutral, and also are made without such chemicals as 1,4-dioxane, phosphates, dyes or perfumes.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Supermarket retailer Fresh & Easy, which operates stores in California, Arizona and Nevada, experienced increased losses this year, according to parent company Tesco.

The chain, which opened its doors in 2007 and has expanded its reach to include more than 165 stores to date, endured a loss of more than $300 million during the 2010-2011 financial year ended Feb. 26, its parent company reported on Tuesday.

The retailer, which already offers a robust wine selection at each of its stores, said it is offering seven new, exclusive wine lines: I Heart CA, Wink, PCH, Cloud Valley, WineWrights, Barrel Ranch and Open Field. What's more, Fresh & Easy partnered with Terravant Wine Co. in the Santa Ynez Valley to create three of the new lines of wine: Cloud Valley, Barrel Ranch and Open Field.

Fresh & Easy has forged ahead with its expansion plans by opening its eighth and ninth Southern California stores.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Fresh & Easy has forged ahead with its expansion plans by opening its eighth and ninth Southern California stores.

The two stores, located in in San Dimas and Camarillo, opened this week. So far, Fresh & Easy stores have generated more than 210 new jobs in Southern California.

As previously reported by Drug Store News, the retailer's expansion plans also include store openings in northern California — Fresh & Easy is slated to open about 11 stores in the region through the end of April.

The company, which has stores in California, Arizona and Nevada, now has the most GreenChill-certified stores than any other retailer in the nation. Fresh & Easy opened its first GreenChill store in September 2010.

The new reusable bag retails for only 79 cents and already is a big hit with customers, with thousands already sold. The bag's creative design was hand-drawn by Los Angeles resident Josephine Close, who received a year's worth of free groceries for winning the contest.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Addressing customers' demand for affordable and nutritious meal options, Fresh & Easy is expanding its popular Eatwell line.

Building on the success of the Eatwell line, which launched last year, are such meal options as steak and spinach salad, spicy tomato chicken pasta and garlic alfredo salmon. The new meals range in price from $2.49 to $4.99.

Each Eatwell meal contains no more than 25% of the daily values for calories, fat, saturated fat and sodium (based upon a 2,000-calorie diet).

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Regional supermarket chain Fresh & Easy has kicked off its in-store food drive for the holiday season.

The food drive, which will benefit food banks in the California, Nevada and Arizona markets, asked customers to donate canned and boxed goods at any store location through Christmas Eve. Between donations from customers and Fresh & Easy stores, more than $1 million in food will be given to local food banks and charities to help fight hunger this holiday season, the retailer said.
