DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens saw a rise in sales across the board for the month of November and fiscal first quarter 2011, the drug store chain said Friday.

Total sales for the chain rose 8.6% to $5.83 billion in November, with 2.8 percentage points contributed by Duane Reade stores. Comparable-store sales for the month also saw a gain of 3.2%, although comps results do not include Duane Reade sales. Total sales for the quarter saw a strong gain of 5.9% to $17.33 billion, as comparable-store sales increased 0.8%.

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Diabetica Research Solutions is spreading the word about its diabetes energy formula with a new media program that targets the New York metropolitan area.

NEW YORK Supermodel Carol Alt is launching her new skin care line, dubbed Raw Essentials, with in-store appearances at Duane Reade stores on Nov. 17 and 18.

On Nov. 17, Alt will be at the Duane Reade store at Third Avenue and 58th Street, and on Nov. 18, she will be at the Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street store.

NEW YORK The DR Doctor On-Premises Walk-In Medical Care clinics, which are located within select Duane Reade stores and are managed by Consumer Health Services, now will accept Medicare.

LAS VEGAS Professional Therapy MuscleCare last month was awarded “best new product” at the ECRM Health Management EPPS held here. The award, sponsored by Drug Store News, is presented to the manufacturer that collects the most “best new product” votes from retailers attending the event.

NEW YORK The natural hair care line by makeup and beauty expert Peter Lamas, founder of Peter Lamas Products, made its way to Duane Reade in the spring and was spotted on shelf at the recently opened Duane Reade flagship store in Union Square.

Lamas has more than 30 years of experience in the beauty industry, defining the looks of Hollywood's hottest stars, such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor.
