Express Scripts customers are urged to transfer their prescriptions to their nearby Jewel-Osco or Shop 'n Save pharmacy as soon as possible so that the companies can provide patients with an easy and smooth transition.

Supervalu will serve as the primary grocery supplier for retailer Western Beef beginning in January 2012, the company announced Tuesday.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu will serve as the primary grocery supplier for retailer Western Beef beginning in January 2012, the company announced Tuesday.

Supervalu, which currently supplies Western Beef’s two stores in Florida, now will include an additional 22 of Western Beef’s conventional stores and five of their limited assortment stores in New York and New Jersey, along with a third Florida store that is slated to open soon.

Supervalu banner Save-A-Lot will open a new 330,000-sq.-ft. food distribution center in Lexington, N.C., on Wednesday.

ST. LOUIS — Supervalu banner Save-A-Lot will open a new 330,000-sq.-ft. food distribution center in Lexington, N.C., on Wednesday.

The distribution center initially will service more than 70 stores within a 150-mile radius, Save-A-Lot noted.

The distribution center, which will employ 35 employees, is part of the company's commitment to expand in the region. Currently, there are nearly 30 Save-A-Lot stores in North Carolina, including one in Lexington; the company plans to open an additional three stores in the state by March 2012.

Leon Bergmann will become president of the retailer's independent business organization, Supervalu announced Thursday. Bergmann is replacing Mark Anderson, who is retiring this summer.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Monday issued a clarification that its Albertsons banners are not removing any self-checkout lanes from their stores.

Confusion was created out of an announcement at the top of July that Albertsons LLC, a separate entity that owns and operates 217 stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas and Utah, decided to remove self-checkout lanes from its stores.

Supervalu on Thursday announced that Matthew Rubel has unanimously been approved to continue as a member of the company’s board.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Thursday announced that Matthew Rubel has unanimously been approved to continue as a member of the company’s board.

Rubel had previously resigned from the position of chairman, president and CEO of Collective Brands, and, consistent with Supervalu’s governance principles, submitted his offer of resignation as a member of the board.

On June 28, the grocer’s board of directors unanimously rejected his offer of resignation.

As part of its commitment to greener operations, Supervalu announced plans to transition 40 Albertsons banner stores to zero-waste operations before the end of the fiscal year on Feb. 29, 2012.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — As part of its commitment to greener operations, Supervalu announced plans to transition 40 Albertsons banner stores to zero-waste operations before the end of the fiscal year on Feb. 29, 2012.

Last November, two Albertsons stores achieved zero-waste classification, which was highlighted in Supervalu's corporate responsibility report that was released Wednesday.

Zero-waste classification is achieved when stores divert at least 90% of all waste from landfills, Supervalu said.
