All strengths of generic lisinopril are free, Publix said, noting, however, that lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) combination products are excluded from the offer. Lisinopril is designed to prevent, treat or improve symptoms of such conditions as hypertension, certain heart conditions, diabetes and certain chronic kidney conditions.

Japanese drug maker Takeda Pharmaceutical is reapplying for approval of two drugs to treat Type 2 diabetes after the Food and Drug Administration turned down its last applications, the company said.

OSAKA, Japan — Japanese drug maker Takeda Pharmaceutical is reapplying for approval of two drugs to treat Type 2 diabetes after the Food and Drug Administration turned down its last applications, the company said.

Takeda announced that it resubmitted its applications for alogliptin and a drug that combines alogliptin with pioglitazone, the active ingredient in Actos, which the FDA approved in 1999.

The FDA will review the applications over the next six months, the drug maker said.

Researchers said they monitored the sleep of 40 subjects with diabetes for a duration of six nights and also measured the subjects' insulin and glucose levels during clinical examinations. The subjects also reported if they generally suffered from symptoms of such sleep disturbances as insomnia, snoring or sleep apnea.

The researchers found that the hemoglobin A1C test missed more than two-thirds of diabetes cases in children at high risk for the condition, but they found that performing that test along with the oral glucose tolerance test dramatically could lower the risk of delayed diagnosis in overweight children.

Nipro Diagnostics long has dominated store-brand blood-glucose meters with a co-branding program that includes TRUE2Go, TRUEresult and TRUEtrack.

As part of the agreement, Perrigo will sell and distribute certain products in the current AgaMatrix portfolio, as well as certain future new products.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
