Almost 3-in-4 women surveyed supplement their diets (74%) versus 65% of men, and 81% of consumers older than 55 years reported supplementing versus 72% of consumers between the ages of 35 years and 54 years, according to an online survey of more than 900 AccentHealth viewers conducted in late 2012. As many as 70% of the generation of respondents between the ages of 18 years and 34 years reported they take vitamins and/or supplements.

According to data from SymphonyIRI Group, sales of skin care — which includes acne treatments, body anti-aging, depilatories, facial anti-aging, facial cleansers and facial moisturizers and fade/bleach — rose nearly 2.5% to about $3.53 billion for the 52 weeks ended Dec. 2 at total

According to "Nutritional Supplements in the U.S.," a report released earlier this week from Packaged Facts, supplement sales rose 7% to $11.5 billion in 2012, and are forecasted to reach $15.5 billion by 2017.

ROCKVILLE, Md. — According to "Nutritional Supplements in the U.S.," a report released earlier this week from Packaged Facts, supplement sales rose 7% to $11.5 billion in 2012, and are forecasted to reach $15.5 billion by 2017.

The report cited a number of factors, including a recovering economy that should have more consumers picking up on supplementing again, the aging baby boomer and a growing Hispanic population that is heavily indexed as supplement users.

In contrast, dollar channel spending among younger boomers is above average across each of these categories.

Most consumers believe that aging gracefully is genetic but also believe that such factors as diet, exercise and sunscreen play an important role in warding off the signs of aging, according to recent Mintel research.

CHICAGO — Most consumers believe that aging gracefully is genetic but also believe that such factors as diet, exercise and sunscreen play an important role in warding off the signs of aging, according to recent Mintel research.

The research firm found that 69% of consumers believed that how you age is mostly genetic. Eight-out-of-10 consumers also thought that diet and exercise are the most important factors associated with aging skin, and 78% believed that using sunscreen is the real key to preventing visible signs of aging.
