WILMINGTON, Del. — AstraZeneca received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for its Bydureon pen (exenatide extended-release for injectable suspension) 2-mg, which is to be used as an addition to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with Type 2 diabetes.

The Bydureon pen is a pre-filled, single-use pen injector, which eliminates the need for the patient to transfer their medication between a vial and syringe during the process of self-injection. The pen contains the same formula and dose as the original Bydureon single-dose tray.

Nielsen expects to complete the acquisition of Harris through a merger under Delaware law. Upon the completion of the merger, Harris Interactive will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Nielsen and its shares will cease to be traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market.

Contributing to a smaller carbon footprint across the East Coast, the recent purchase of 35 Class 8 Volvo trucks will operate out of Supervalu's Mechanicsville, Va., distribution center and serve approximately 500 grocery stores in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Washington, D.C. and North Carolina.

PITTSBURGH — Mylan is challenging the patent protection on a drug used to treat fibromyalgia, prompting a lawsuit from the branded drug's manufacturers.

Mylan said Wednesday that Forest Labs and Royalty Pharma had sued it in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware in connection with its filing of a regulatory approval application with the Food and Drug Administration for milnacipran hydrochloride tablets in the 12.5-mg, 25-mg, 50-mg and 100-mg strengths. The drug is a generic version of Savella.

SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion has revamped 178 of its stores and hired 800 new employees, the Delhaize Group-owned supermarket chain said.

The company said the stores would offer an improved shopping experience — such as faster checkout service — fresher produce through the "Fresh from the Field" initiative and cheaper private label products. The changes were made to stores in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

NEW YORK — Drug maker Merz Pharmaceuticals is suing Par Pharmaceutical over the latter's attempt to market a generic drug for cerebral palsy patients, according to published reports.

Bloomberg reported that Merz sued Par in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware after Par attempted to apply for Food and Drug Administration approval for a generic version of Cuvposa (glycopyrrolate) oral solution, used to treat severe drooling in cerebral palsy patients.

The drug received FDA approval this year, and Merz bought rights to the drug in August.

AstraZeneca said the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a decision by the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware ruling that a patent covering the drug Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) was valid and enforceable. The patent, which expires in 2016, covers the active ingredient of Crestor.
