HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Sears Holdings is hoping to obtain a new loan in order to reduce borrowings from an older loan agreement, the company said Monday.

Sears Holdings, the parent company of mass merchandiser Kmart, said it had issued a notice that it intended to obtain an incremental term loan of up to $1 billion.

Private investment firm Yucaipa Cos., which was founded by billionaire Ron Burkle, has announced that it plans to acquire Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market from U.K.-based Tesco PLC.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Private investment firm Yucaipa Cos., which was founded by billionaire Ron Burkle, has announced that it plans to acquire Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market from U.K.-based Tesco PLC.

Yucaipa's purchase is slated to be complete within three months. In the meantime, it is expected to be business as usual for most Fresh & Easy stores.

Following its announcement to acquire Harris Teeter Supermarkets in a deal valued at $2.5 billion made earlier this month Kroger plans to raise $1 billion through the issuance of two bonds, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported Friday.

CINCINNATI — Following its announcement to acquire Harris Teeter Supermarkets in a deal valued at $2.5 billion made earlier this month Kroger plans to raise $1 billion through the issuance of two bonds, the Cincinnati Business Courier reported Friday.

Kroger said in its Thursday filing it plans to issue $600 million in 10-year notes that pay a 3.85% annual interest rate. It also plans to issue $400 million in 30-year notes that pay 5.15%.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Wednesday, the Quebec-based pharmacy retailer announced that it would sell 65.4 million shares in Rite Aid at a price of $183.1 million.

NEW YORK — The Jean Coutu Group is selling the last of its shares in Rite Aid Corp., according to a regulatory filing.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission Wednesday, the Quebec-based pharmacy retailer announced that it would sell 65.4 million shares in Rite Aid at a price of $192.2 million.

Rite Aid said it has finished a cash offer for $810 million in senior notes with a 9.5% interest rate due 2017, funded with proceeds from a previous sale of $810 million worth of 6.75% senior notes due 2021.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is offering to buy back $810 million worth of debt while increasing the amount of a new bond sale announced Tuesday, the retail pharmacy chain said.

Rite Aid said it would buy back all of its $810 million worth of 9.5% senior notes due 2017. The company also said it would increase the $400 million offering of 6.75% senior notes due 2021 by another $410 million, for a total of $810 million, as part of a debt-refinancing plan.

MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu on Thursday successfully completed the refinancing of its existing $1.5 billion senior secured term loan agreement. The amendment reduces the interest rate margin from 5% to 4% and reduces the LIBOR floor from 1.25% to 1% for LIBOR based loans.

The offers expired on Dec. 21, 2012. An aggregate principal amount of about $1.74 billion of notes was tendered.

Rite Aid announced the closing of its offering of $421 million in senior notes with a 9.25% interest rate and due in 2020. The company plans to use money from the offering to buy back 9.375% senior notes due 2015. As of Monday night, $296.3 million worth of the old notes had been put up for sale.

As previously reported, Coty submitted a nonbinding proposal to acquire Avon for $23.25 per share in cash. The proposal, valued at approximately $10 billion, represents a substantial premium of 27% over the three-month, volume-weighted average price for Avon shares, Coty stated.

CAMP HILL. Pa. — Rite Aid same-store sales increased by 3.1% in February, including a 1.9% increase in front-end comps and a 3.7% increase in pharmacy comps, the company said Thursday.

Total sales for the 4,667-store chain were $2.55 billion, a 2.3% increase over February 2011's $2.5 billion.

Rite Aid said the proceeds of its offering of $481 million in 9.25% senior notes due 2020 would be used to buy back its 8.625% senior notes due 2015.

The retail pharmacy chain announced the offering on Feb. 14. The offering marked the first time that the company was able to tap the unsecured debt market in five years. Rite Aid has carried a heavy debt burden since its 2007 acquisition of the Brooks and Eckerd pharmacy chains.

CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid is offering $481 million in eight-year senior notes to refinance debt that is scheduled to be due in three years, the retail pharmacy chain said Tuesday.

Rite Aid said it would use money from the offering to pay interest and other expenses related to a tender offer announced Tuesday for all outstanding 8.625% senior notes due 2015. The price includes the $459 million principal plus a 2.625% premium. The new notes are being offered at a 9.25% interest rate.

ARDEE, Ireland Drug maker Warner Chilcott will buy the U.S. rights to a treatment for overactive bladder for $400 million, the company said Friday.

 

The drug maker announced that it would terminate its co-promotion agreement with Novartis concerning the drug Enablex (darifenacin) and purchase the rights to sell it in the United States. It may be required to make additional milestone payments of up to $20 million to Novartis.
