LAS VEGAS — Lansinoh Laboratories is expanding its product offering with six new items for mass outlets in 2014, which are being introduced this week at the ABC Kids Expo, the company announced Wednesday.  

The items are inspired by Lansinoh's new Pump-Store-Feed system, and are designed to make breastfeeding as convenient as possible. The new products include two breast pumps and a redesign of the Lansinoh mOmma bottle.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Caremark has announced that the first MinuteClinic locations in Northern California and the Bay Area have now opened inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.  

Three MinuteClinic locations are now operating in Foster City, San Jose and Sunnyvale CVS/pharmacy stores. Four additional clinics will begin to treat patients in November in Burlingame, Campbell, Mountain View and Santa Clara.

Consumers will take a conservative approach to spending this holiday season. According to NRF’s holiday consumer spending survey conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics, the average holiday shopper will spend $737.95 on gifts, decor, greeting cards and more, 2% less than the $752.24 they actually spent last year. Despite this reduction in individual holiday budgets, NRF is forecasting holiday sales will increase 3.9% to $602.1 billion.

NEW YORK — The executive director of the Oregon Board of Pharmacy is leaving, according to published reports.

The Lund Report, an online publication that covers Oregon's healthcare system, reported that Gary Schnabel was stepping down to pursue "other interests." Schnabel turned 65 years old this month and has lead the board for 19 years.

The Mast pharmacies previously operated under the name of Wooster Rx in Wooster, Ohio, and Mast Pharmacy in Berlin, Millersburg, Shreve and Sugarcreek, Ohio, but will be converted to Ritzman banners, the companies stated.

Patients taking a drug used for weight loss were able to reduce their chances of developing Type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Patients taking a drug used for weight loss were able to reduce their chances of developing Type 2 diabetes, according to a new study.

According to data from a 475-patient study published in the journal Diabetes Care, Vivus' Qsymia (phentermine and topiramate) reduced the annualized incidence rate of Type 2 diabetes by up to 78.7% in high-risk, overweight or obese patients with prediabetes or metabolic syndrome. Prediabetes is a condition in which a person has elevated blood sugar and a high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.

DUBLIN — Actavis is hoping to become the first to market a generic version of a drug used to treat patients who have become dependent on opioid drugs, triggering a lawsuit from the branded drug's manufacturer.

The generic drug maker said it had filed a regulatory approval application with the Food and Drug Administration for buprenorphine hydrochloride and naloxone hydrochloride sublingual film in the 2-mg/0.5-mg and 8-mg/2-mg strengths. The drug is a generic version of Reckitt Benckiser's Suboxone.

LONDON — AstraZeneca has acquired a British developer of biotech drugs for treating cancer, AstraZeneca said Tuesday.

The company said its MedImmune subsidiary had acquired privately held Spirogen and also entered into a collaboration with ADC Therapeutics to develop two of ADC's antibody-drug conjugate programs, currently in pre-clinical development. MedImmune will make an equity investment in ADC, which has an existing licensing agreement with Spirogen.
