WOONSOCKET, R.I. — The damp weather here in Woonsocket, R.I., failed to dampen spirits during CVS Caremark’s annual shareholder meeting Thursday morning, as the pharmacy retailer recently wrapped up an “outstanding” 2012 and looks to the future with continued optimism.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Meijer will open its 200th store next week, the mass merchandise retailer said Thursday.

Calling the opening of the Swartz Creek, Mich., store a "milestone," the company said it will open on May 16. The store is the first of six new stores the chain plans to open this year in Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.

HAYWARD, Calif. — Prince of Peace Enterprises on Thursday named the winners of its Tiger Balm Singapore Sweepstakes. 

The Tiger Balm Singapore Sweepstakes ran from Nov. 7, 2012 to Feb. 28, 2013 and gave entrants the chance to win a trip for two to Singapore (the home of Tiger Balm) or one of three gift packs with $100 in Tiger Balm products and gear.

REDLANDS, Calif. — Midwestern supermarket chain Hy-Vee is expanding its use of a mapping platform made by geographic information systems firm Esri to aid its real estate decision-making, Esri said Wednesday.

Esri said this would allow Hy-Vee to enhance its site selection, using location analytics that combine demographic and psychographic data.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Fred's Super Dollar on Tuesday posted a slight 0.2% sales gain for its first quarter ended May 4, to $501.4 million. Comparable store-sales for the quarter were down 1.3%. 

For the month of April (four weeks ended May 4), Fred's total sales increased 3% to $152.2 million. Comparable store sales for the month increased 1.2% comparatively.

ALEXANDRIA, Va.  — More than 300 independent community pharmacists from across the country met in Washington, D.C., at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill Wednesday for the 2013 National Community Pharmacists Association Conference on Legislation and Government Affairs. The pharmacists conducted more than 500 meetings with congressional offices.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A campaign run by Midwestern mass-merchandise chain Meijer to raise money for food banks has netted more than half a million dollars, the company said.

Meijer said customers donated $184,230 during Simply Give Double Match Days to help food pantries around the Midwest stock shelves, and Meijer double-matched the donations for a total of $552,690.
