Handcuffs, marketed by Orriginals, were introduced at the Magic apparel show in 1998 and have since found favor among such celebrities as Jay Leno, Garth Brooks and Rosie O'Donnell.

BETHESDA, Md. — Only a quarter of respondents to a new survey would call a doctor for advice when someone at home has the flu, despite widespread recognition of it as serious and of the need for vaccination.

The study, conducted by the National Foundation of Infectious Diseases, found that 93% of adults understand the flu is serious, while 87% understand it's highly contagious, and 66% understand the need for vaccination. The study included a national survey of 1,000 adults and surveys of 500 adults in 10 states, collected between Aug. 6 and Aug. 28.

The event marked the pop star’s first public appearance since welcoming her first child, Axl Jack Duhamel, this past August.

NEW YORK — A chain of stores that stock small items for travelers has opened its latest location in Atlanta.

3FLOZ announced Monday the opening of its newest fully automated retail store at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The store features beauty, personal care and other products in sizes that allow travelers to pack light. Products include sunscreen, hairspray, toothpaste and 3FLOZ's private-label Essentials travel kits.

The APhA Foundation announced in September the official installment of Stuart Haines, professor of and vice chairman for clinical services in the Unviersity of Maryland School of Pharmacy's Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science in Baltimore, as well as a clinical pharmacy specialist in primary care at the West Palm Beach, Fla., VA Medical Center.

DUBLIN — Covidien will acquire a company that markets a swallowed capsule used in medical imaging for $860 million, the hospital equipment manufacturer said Sunday.

Covidien announced a deal to acquire all outstanding shares of Given Imaging for $30 a share. Given Imaging specializes in products for visualizing, diagnosing and monitoring the digestive system, including its flagship product, PillCam.

NEW YORK — Institutional pharmacy PharMerica Corp. has acquired a minority stake in specialty pharmacy company Onco360, the two companies said Monday.

Onco360, which focuses on oncology services, and PharMerica called the stake "significant," and PharMerica will have the option to acquire the rest of the company over the next several years, but financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Onco360 currently has sales of more than $100 million per year.

NEW YORK — Two patients in Boston whom researchers had thought were cured of HIV have experienced a relapse of the infection, according to published reports.

The New York Daily News reported that the two men, who were believed cured after receiving bone marrow transplants for lymphoma, had the virus return.

NEW YORK — A philanthropic arm of mass merchandiser Shopko is planning to donate up to $360,000 to school districts across the country.

The Shopko Hometown Foundation, part of the Shopko Hometown division, which runs 181 small-format stores across the country, said it would donate $1 for each signature it receives from customers, for up to $2,000 per store.

The campaign, called Help Us Give Back, lasts through Dec. 24. Customers can sign their names once per day, every day through the campaign.
